Find the Spokane County Court First, Then Search the Case

Spokane County court records are split among Superior Court, District Court and Spokane Municipal Court. Superior and District Court information can be searched through the Spokane County Court Viewer, while Spokane Municipal Court has a separate eCourt portal.

If you only know a name, use an official court search to identify the court and case number first. Once you have those two details, use the record-holding court for the actual docket, document request or certified copy.

Quick answer Start with the Spokane County Court Viewer for Superior or District Court. Use Spokane Municipal Court eCourt for a City of Spokane municipal case. Spokane Superior Court can also be searched through Washington Courts Odyssey. Save the exact court and complete case number before ordering documents.

Which Spokane County Court Record System Should You Use?

The first decision is not which name box to use. It is which court probably handled the case. Searching the wrong court is one of the most common reasons a legitimate case appears to be missing.

Superior Court

County Clerk / Superior Court

Start here for Spokane County Superior Court matters such as felony criminal cases, major civil matters, family-law cases, probate, guardianship, adoption and juvenile matters.

Search the local viewer →
District Court

Spokane County District Court

Use District Court for county limited-jurisdiction matters, including misdemeanors, gross misdemeanors, traffic and non-traffic infractions, civil cases, small claims and adult name changes.

Open District Court →
Municipal Court

Spokane Municipal Court

City of Spokane municipal cases use a separate system. The eCourt portal provides defendant, case and court-date searches for qualifying municipal matters.

Open municipal eCourt →
Do not confuse District Court with Spokane Municipal Court. Both are courts of limited jurisdiction, but they are separate courts with different case systems. A person can therefore have a Spokane-area case that does not appear in the first local portal you search.

Official Spokane County Court Record Search Routes

What you need Official route What it is useful for Important limit
Superior or District case Spokane County Court Viewer Case information and hearing dates by local court. The viewer itself says its information is reference material, not the official court record.
Spokane Superior Court statewide search Washington Courts Odyssey Party-name, case-number, hearing and advanced Superior Court searching. Public access does not mean every filed document is remotely available.
City of Spokane municipal case Spokane Municipal Court eCourt Case searches, defendant searches and court dates. Some enhanced functions require credentials or case association.
Superior Court document or certified copy Spokane County Clerk Plain copies, certified copies and file information. Search results and docket entries are not automatically certified copies.
District Court document request District Court Records Requests Case-specific record requests, broader reports and administrative-record requests. Use the correct form; administrative-record requests are different from case-document requests.
Historical search Washington State Archives Searching historical Washington public-record collections. Not every older court file is necessarily indexed there; the Spokane County Clerk may remain the correct first contact.

How to Search Spokane County Court Records in 7 Steps

Use this sequence when you have a person, business or case in mind but are not yet sure which system contains the official record.

Identify the likely court

Separate Superior Court, Spokane County District Court and Spokane Municipal Court before adding lots of search filters. If you are unsure, check all relevant levels rather than assuming one database covers everything.

Open the official search route

Use the Spokane County Court Viewer for local Superior and District Court searching. Use Washington Courts Odyssey when you want the statewide Spokane Superior Court route. Use municipal eCourt for City of Spokane municipal matters.

Search the case number first when you have it

A complete case number is normally more reliable than a broad name search. Keep the full sequence, including year, court-level characters, leading zeroes, hyphens and suffixes shown by the court.

Use a careful name search when the number is unknown

Start with the minimum reliable name information. If a middle name, suffix, punctuation or former surname is uncertain, test variations instead of forcing an uncertain field into every search.

Verify the result before relying on it

Compare the court, case number, party role, filing date, case category and disposition or event history. A same-name match does not establish that the record belongs to a particular person.

Identify the exact document you need

A search result, docket, hearing listing, order, judgment and certified copy are different things. Note the filing name and filing date before requesting copies so you do not pay for unnecessary pages.

Troubleshoot older, missing or restricted records

If the case does not appear, check another court level, remove uncertain filters, confirm the filing year and contact the record-holding clerk about older, microfilmed, confidential, sealed or otherwise restricted material.

Spokane County Superior Court Records

The Spokane County Clerk acts as the record keeper for Superior Court proceedings. County guidance lists civil, domestic, felony criminal, probate, guardianship, paternity, adoption and juvenile matters among the Clerk’s record responsibilities.

Pre-2005 Documents not available online in the local viewer

What the local Superior Court viewer can show

The Spokane County Court Viewer can display Superior Court case information, document entries and hearing or due-date information. Its public page also states that access is subject to Washington General Rule 31.

Documents before January 2005 need a different route. Spokane County’s Superior Court viewer states that documents before January 2005 are not available online. Older public files may need in-person review or Clerk assistance, including microfilm or archive routing.

Public case viewing at the Clerk’s Office

The Clerk’s current main contact page publishes office hours of Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. A separate case-information page still describes in-person public file viewing as 8:30 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. If you are travelling specifically to inspect a file, call first and confirm the current viewing window.

District Court record-request forms are task-specific

The District Court records page separates a general defendant or case request from broader statistical requests and administrative-record requests. Do not use the administrative-record form when you are trying to obtain documents from an individual court case.

Case record versus administrative record A case document concerns a judicial proceeding. An administrative record concerns the management or administration of the court. Spokane County provides separate processes for these requests.

Spokane Municipal Court Records Use a Separate eCourt Portal

Do not expect every City of Spokane municipal case to appear through the county’s District Court workflow. Spokane Municipal Court operates its own eCourt environment.

The municipal portal currently provides court-date searches by defendant name or case number, hearing-date searches and case searches by case number or defendant. Some advanced searches and eFiling functions require login credentials or an active association with the case.

Municipal Court case-document requests

For a document connected to a judicial proceeding, Spokane Municipal Court directs users to its Request for Court Records process. The court publishes a separate process for administrative court records and bulk data.

How to Find a Spokane County Court Date

Use the calendar or hearing tool belonging to the court that holds the case. Spokane County specifically directs District and Superior Court users to the local search application, while Spokane Municipal Court maintains its own ePortal.

Court Best route Search options What to do if missing
Superior Court Spokane Court Viewer / Odyssey Case number, party and hearing search options. Confirm with the Clerk or court handling the case.
District Court Spokane Court Viewer Case number, defendant/name and hearings. Contact District Court at 509-477-4770.
Municipal Court Spokane Municipal eCourt Future dates, all hearings, case number and defendant. Contact Municipal Court rather than District Court.
If missing the hearing could have legal consequences, verify directly. Do not assume that a hearing was cancelled merely because a portal search returns nothing or shows an unexpected result.

Spokane County Court Record Copies and Current 2026 Fees

First decide whether you need an informational copy or an officially certified copy. Certification costs more and is unnecessary when the receiving person or agency accepts a plain copy.

Superior Court / County Clerk fees

Spokane County’s current Clerk fee schedule says the rates below became effective June 11, 2026. Some older county pages still display the former $0.25 non-certified copy rate, so the newer fee schedule and updated copy page should control.

Superior Court item Current published fee Practical note
Non-certified copy $0.50 per page Use when official certification is not required.
Certified copy $5 first page + $1 each additional page Certification is issued by the Clerk.
Electronic copy by email $0.50 per page Listed in the current Clerk fee schedule.
Search fee $30 per hour or portion of an hour Relevant when Clerk staff must perform a records search.
Recorded proceeding duplication $25 per court date copied Additional storage-medium charges can apply.

How to request a Superior Court copy

  1. Find the case and save the complete case number.
  2. Identify the exact filing, order, judgment or document you need.
  3. Decide whether the receiving party requires certification.
  4. For an in-person request, use the Spokane County Clerk’s Office.
  5. For mail, follow the Clerk’s current mailing instructions and include the required payment and return-envelope/postage arrangement.
  6. Call 509-477-2211 if you need the page count and exact copy total before mailing payment.

District Court copy fees are different

District Court item Current published fee Note
Staff-made / hard copy $0.50 per page District Court fee, not the Superior Court certification schedule.
Emailed copy $0.25 per page Current District Court fee schedule.
Certified copy $5 per document Confirm the amount with District Court for the exact request.
CD reproduction $10 each Use only when that media format is needed.
Money-saving step Before ordering a full file, ask what the receiving agency actually needs. A final order, judgment, decree or one certified document may be enough.

Older and Archived Spokane County Court Records

An online no-result does not prove that an older Spokane County case never existed. Electronic coverage varies by court, record type and filing year.

Superior Court records before January 2005

The local Superior Court viewer specifically states that documents from before January 2005 are not available online. The County Clerk’s case-information guidance says older cases may be on microfilm and that staff may route the request to the Clerk’s Archives Division.

What to tell the Clerk

Give the names of the parties, approximate filing year, case type and any partial case number you have. If you need a particular order or judgment, name it instead of requesting the entire file.

Washington State Archives

The Washington State Archives Digital Archives provides a searchable statewide historical-record system. It can be useful for historical research, but it is not a replacement for the Spokane County Clerk when the Clerk remains the official custodian of the court file.

No Spokane County Court Record Found? Check These Causes

Wrong court Superior, District and Municipal Court use different routing.
Name mismatch Remove an uncertain middle name, suffix or punctuation and retry.
Too many Odyssey results Narrow by Spokane County, date range or case category.
Older Superior document Pre-January-2005 documents are not available through the local online viewer.
Recent or incomplete data Check the record-holding court rather than relying only on a cross-court index.
Restricted record Sealed, confidential, juvenile, adoption or other protected information can have access limits.

Run this recovery sequence

  1. Confirm whether the case belongs to Superior, District or Municipal Court.
  2. Retry the search with fewer name fields.
  3. Try a former, alternate, spaced or hyphenated surname where genuinely relevant.
  4. Use the complete case number if you have it.
  5. Search Spokane Superior Court in Odyssey if the local route is unclear.
  6. Check Spokane Municipal eCourt separately.
  7. Confirm the approximate filing year.
  8. For an older Superior Court file, ask the County Clerk about microfilm or archive access.
  9. For a protected file, ask the record-holding court what access procedure applies rather than attempting to bypass restrictions.

Washington GR 31 and Restricted Court Records

Washington General Rule 31 governs public access to court records. Its policy favors court-record access while recognizing privacy, statutory, rule-based and court-order restrictions.

Spokane County’s Superior Court viewer also warns that personal identifiers may sometimes appear in filed documents and that public online information should not be treated as identity verification.

Restricted does not mean missing. A confidential or sealed matter may exist even when its documents are unavailable to ordinary public searching. Spokane County says some confidential or sealed cases require proper identification and some may require a court order before access is allowed.

Know What You Found Before You Order Anything

Record What it tells you What it does not automatically prove
Search result Possible case, court, parties or case number. That the listed person is the person you are researching.
Docket / event history Filings, hearings, orders and procedural activity. That every underlying filing is available online.
Filed document The actual text of an order, motion, complaint, judgment or other filing. That it is a certified copy.
Certified copy A copy formally certified by the Clerk or court. That every later order, appeal or modification has been reviewed.

For a broader explanation, see the internal Court Record Types Explained page.

Verify a Spokane County Case Before Relying on It

Confirm the court Make sure the result belongs to the correct Superior, District or Municipal Court.
Confirm the person Do not identify someone from a name match alone.
Read the outcome A complaint, charge or petition is not the same as a judgment or conviction.
Check later activity Dismissal, amended orders, appeals or later events can change what an older entry means.
Use the correct copy An ordinary PDF or online view is not automatically certified.
Respect access limits Do not attempt to circumvent sealed or confidential-record restrictions.
Consumer-reporting limit PublicCourtRecords.org is an informational court-navigation website, not a consumer reporting agency or background-check service. Do not use this site as a substitute for legally compliant employment, housing, credit, insurance or other regulated eligibility screening.
