Find Houston County Court Records by State, Name or Case Number

Houston County court records are maintained by different courts depending on the state and type of case. Start by identifying the correct Houston County, then use its judiciary website, case-search system or clerk’s office to locate public records.

Quick answer

There are Houston Counties in Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, Texas and Minnesota. They do not share one court-record database. If your case is in the city of Houston, Texas, you will usually need Harris County court resources instead.

Which Houston County Court Records Do You Need?

The county name alone is not enough to identify the appropriate court. A Houston County record in Georgia cannot be found through Alabama’s trial-court system, and Houston County, Texas, is separate from Houston city in Harris County.

Use the location where the case was filed. The person’s present residence does not necessarily determine which court holds the record.

Houston County, Georgia Court Records Search

Houston County, Georgia serves the Perry and Warner Robins area. Records may be held by Superior Court, State Court, Magistrate Court, Probate Court or a municipal court, depending on the legal matter.

The county provides separate online search resources rather than one universal court search. Its official services directory is the appropriate starting point.

Superior Court and State Court

Superior Court handles matters including major civil litigation, felony cases and domestic-relations proceedings. State Court handles matters within its assigned jurisdiction, including many misdemeanor, traffic and civil proceedings.

The county’s State Court search page separates cases filed before September 1, 2017 from cases filed after that date. Earlier records have separate civil and traffic/criminal searches, while later records use a combined search route. Choosing the wrong date group may produce an apparent missing record.

Benchmark replaced PeachCourt for designated eFilings.

Houston County announced the Benchmark system for Superior and State Court effective November 12, 2025, with PeachCourt no longer available for those courts after November 28, 2025. The notice explains account requirements for litigants and attorneys, including steps for self-represented parties to receive electronic court notices.

Searching an existing public record and electronically filing a document are different activities. Do not assume an eFiling account is necessary for every public lookup, or that viewing a case authorizes you to file into it.

Houston County, Alabama is served by the 20th Judicial Circuit. The Circuit Clerk’s Office in Dothan maintains records for proceedings within the county’s Circuit and District Courts.

The Clerk’s official information covers civil, criminal, domestic, child-support, traffic, juvenile and other court divisions. Not all records within those categories are publicly accessible.

Alabama Just One Look

The Alabama Administrative Office of Courts provides Just One Look for on-demand access to available state trial-court case records. This is a fee-based service rather than an unrestricted free search.

Use the Alabama court portal to access Just One Look and review its current charges before proceeding. AlaFile is primarily an electronic filing and service platform; it should not be confused with the general public records search.

Houston County, Tennessee Court Records Search

Houston County, Tennessee has its county seat in Erin. The right contact depends on whether the matter belongs to Circuit Court, General Sessions Court, Chancery Court or a municipal court.

Tennessee’s Administrative Office of the Courts publishes a county-specific clerk directory. This is preferable to assuming the general county clerk handles all court filings.

Circuit Court and General Sessions

For Circuit Court records, begin with the Houston County Circuit Court Clerk. The state directory identifies the office in Erin and provides the clerk’s contact information.

County Clerk versus Court Clerk

The county clerk’s office also handles non-court administrative services, including certain vehicle and marriage services. A county clerk record search is not necessarily a Circuit Court or Chancery Court search.

When requesting a court record, state the court name and ask whether a public docket lookup, onsite inspection, mail request or certified-copy process is available. Avoid assuming that a commercial search website is an official statewide trial-court database.

Houston County, Texas Court Records Search

Houston County, Texas has its county seat in Crockett. It is a different jurisdiction from Houston city in Harris County.

Texas assigns court-record custody to different offices according to the court and proceeding. Houston County’s official website provides District Clerk and County Clerk resources, including access to online record searches.

How to Search Houston County Court Records in 7 Steps

The following procedure works as a general search checklist. The exact screens, permitted searches and document access depend on the selected state’s official court system.

  1. Confirm the state and county.

Check the court paperwork or the location where the case was filed. Distinguish Houston County, Texas from Houston city in Harris County.

  2. Identify the correct court.

Determine whether the matter belongs to a Circuit, District, Superior, State, Magistrate, Probate, Chancery, municipal or other court. A county may have multiple record custodians.

  3. Open the official court resource.

Use the relevant government website or court portal above. Review registration requirements, search coverage and posted fees before entering information.

  4. Search by case number when available.

Copy the case number from a summons, order, receipt or court notice. Preserve punctuation and letters when required by the system.

  5. Try supported name searches.

If the number is unknown, enter the party name using the portal’s available fields. Try reasonable name variations and date filters rather than assuming that a same-name result identifies the correct person.

  6. Review the result carefully.

Check court, case type, filing date, parties, case status and docket entries. A docket summary may not contain the actual filing or final judgment document.

  7. Request the missing or certified record.

When the portal does not provide the document or you need a certified copy, contact the appropriate clerk. Supply the case number, court and precise document needed.

What Types of Houston Court Records Can Be Found?

Availability depends on state law, court rules, case type and confidentiality restrictions. Public access does not mean every filing is downloadable.

Record TypeCommon InformationImportant Limitation
CriminalCharges, hearings, docket history, orders and dispositionsA filed charge does not establish conviction; restricted records may be withheld
CivilComplaints, parties, motions, hearings and judgmentsA complaint is an allegation, not a finding of liability

ProbateEstate administration, probate orders and guardianship mattersJurisdiction and confidentiality vary by state and proceeding
TrafficCitations, hearing dates, fines and dispositionsMunicipal or specialized court cases may be kept separately
JuvenileLimited public case information where legally permittedMany juvenile records are confidential or otherwise restricted

Houston County Court Record Copies, Fees and Certification

There is no single Houston County search or copy fee across all five states. Costs differ by the court, document, format and whether certification is required.

What Is the Difference Between a Docket and a Certified Copy?

A docket or Register of Actions summarizes case activity, such as filings, hearings and orders. It does not necessarily provide the full text of those documents. A regular downloaded copy may be useful for reference, but a certified copy is issued or authenticated through the appropriate records custodian.

Information to Prepare Before Requesting a Copy

  • State, county and exact court name.
  • Case number, if known.
  • Names of the parties as they appear in the case.
  • Document title, such as judgment, order or complaint.
  • Approximate filing date or hearing date.
  • Whether a regular or certified copy is required.
  • Your contact information and the requested delivery method.

Ask the clerk about accepted payment methods, whether advance payment is required, any identity or authorization requirements, and how the office handles requests that cannot be fulfilled remotely.

Why Can’t I Find a Houston County Court Case?

An unsuccessful online search does not prove that no case exists. Before contacting a clerk, narrow down the likely reason the search failed.

Most useful recovery step

Contact the clerk of the court in which the case was filed. Explain which public search you used, what information you entered and which case or document you need. The clerk may be able to clarify where the record is held or the appropriate request procedure.

Public Access, Restricted Records and Responsible Use

Courts may restrict records involving minors, sealed proceedings, expunged matters, protected personal identifiers or other confidential material. Rules differ by jurisdiction and can also limit remote access to otherwise publicly inspectable documents.

A name match is not proof of identity. Before relying on a result, compare available identifiers, court, dates, case number and official disposition. A charge does not mean a conviction, and a lawsuit filing does not establish that the defendant is legally responsible.

Houston County Court Records: Frequently Asked Questions

Are Houston County court records free to search?

Some courts provide free online case information, while others require registration or payment. Alabama’s Just One Look is a fee-based trial-court search. Copies and certification may cost extra even when a case summary is publicly viewable.

Can I find Houston County court records by name?

Where the official system supports party-name search, you can enter a name and refine the results with case type, date or other available fields. Minnesota MCRO expressly provides name searches. A same-name match should not be assumed to identify the person you are looking for.

Is Houston County, Texas the same as Houston city?

No. Houston County, Texas has its county seat in Crockett. Houston city is primarily within Harris County. The two jurisdictions maintain different court-record systems.

How do I search older Houston County court cases?

Start with the relevant court and ask about legacy electronic systems, archived files and records-retention practices. Houston County, Georgia’s State Court specifically separates records filed before and after September 1, 2017.

Can I get a certified copy of a judgment?

Where the record is available to you, request certification from the clerk or court administration that maintains the judgment. Provide the case number and specify the document. Downloading a docket or unofficial PDF does not automatically produce a certified copy.

Why is a public court record not available online?

Remote access may be limited by court rules, document availability, record age, confidentiality or differences between court systems. Contact the relevant court to determine whether inspection or a lawful copy request is possible.

Does a court-record search show whether someone was convicted?

Not necessarily. A court search can show allegations, charges, hearings, case events, dismissals or judgments depending on the system. Review the official disposition rather than treating a charge or filing as proof of conviction.
