Find Hancock County Court Records Through the Right Court
Search court cases in Findlay and Hancock County, Ohio, using official records systems for Common Pleas, municipal, and probate matters. Learn which court has the case, how to examine a docket, and where to request copies.
Choose the Correct Hancock County Court Records Search
There is no single public website covering every Hancock County court record. The correct search depends on whether the case belongs to the General or Domestic Relations Division of Common Pleas Court, Findlay Municipal Court, or Probate Court.
Common Pleas Court
Use this route for felony criminal, major civil, domestic relations, and certain appellate records maintained by the Hancock County Clerk of Courts.
The Legal Department records civil, felony criminal, and domestic relations filings and also serves the Third District Court of Appeals.
Open County eServices ↗Findlay Municipal Court
Use the municipal search for traffic citations, criminal misdemeanors, certain preliminary felony proceedings, municipal civil suits, evictions, and small-claims matters.
Municipal case details and daily dockets are provided through a separate city-operated system.
Municipal Case Links ↗Probate Court
Use Probate Court for estates, guardianships, marriage-license records, name changes, and other matters within probate jurisdiction.
The county publishes probate record-search links, including a separate route for records before May 25, 2021.
Probate Record Search ↗How to Search Hancock County Court Records Online
Have the party’s name, case number, approximate filing year, and case type available before beginning. A case number is typically a more precise identifier than a person’s name, particularly when several individuals share similar names.
- Identify the court. Match the matter to Common Pleas, Findlay Municipal, or Probate Court. Check whether a felony has moved from municipal proceedings into Common Pleas.
- Open the official search system. Use the county eServices portal for eligible county cases, the city’s municipal links for municipal matters, or the county’s probate record-search page.
- Choose a supported search method. Hancock County eServices identifies searching by case number, case type, names, attorney, and ticket or citation number among its capabilities. Available filters may differ by service.
- Enter identifying information carefully. Start with the full case number when known. Otherwise, try party-name variations and narrow by case type or date when the system offers those filters.
- Examine the correct case detail. Compare the court name, filing date, case type, parties, and docket history. Do not assume that a matching name proves that the record belongs to a particular person.
- Review the docket and documents. Determine whether the portal provides docket entries only or also makes actual filings and orders available. A docket summary is not necessarily the full document.
- Contact the record-holding office when needed. For old files, missing images, certified copies, restricted records, or a possible record error, contact the applicable court or clerk before relying on the online result.

Findlay Municipal Court Records and 2026 Search Problems
Findlay Municipal Court’s jurisdiction includes the City of Findlay and Hancock County townships. The court processes traffic and criminal misdemeanors, certain felony hearings, civil matters, small claims, evictions, rent escrow, and trusteeships.
The official municipal search page provides separate links for traffic/criminal daily dockets, traffic/criminal case search, civil daily dockets, civil case search, and active warrants.
What to do when the municipal search is unreliable
- Start from the official case-search links page.
- If you are redirected to the city’s homepage, try the court-provided direct address: municipal search website.
- Use the menu in the municipal search system to select the correct records function.
- If the filing or hearing information is newer than the posted update date, verify its current status directly with the municipal clerk.
- For an actual document or certified copy, request the record through the appropriate municipal department.
For traffic or misdemeanor questions, the municipal Traffic/Criminal Department lists 419-424-7141. Civil and Small Claims lists 419-424-7143.
Visit Findlay Municipal Court ↗Hancock County Probate and Juvenile Court Records
Hancock County Probate Court supervises estate administration and also handles guardianships, name changes, marriage licenses, adoptions, and other probate matters. Public availability depends on the proceeding and applicable confidentiality requirements.
Current and older probate records
The county’s Probate Record Search page provides two record-search links: a current search and a search designated for records before May 25, 2021. If an older probate case cannot be located through the current route, check the separate historical link before concluding that the file is missing.
For older probate matters, confirm whether the record has been transferred, archived, or maintained in a different format. The Probate Court can explain how to request an available file or certified copy.
Juvenile records are not ordinary public case searches
The Hancock County eServices portal expressly states that juvenile cases are not available for public viewing through that portal. Other confidentiality rules can also apply to adoption, mental-health, sealed, and restricted records. Contact the court to determine whether you are legally entitled to the particular record; do not attempt to bypass access restrictions.
Official Probate Court Information ↗Hancock County Court Records Before January 1985
Hancock County Court eServices advises that anyone seeking court records prior to January 1985 should visit the Hancock County Clerk of Courts office at 300 South Main Street in Findlay.
This date is an important search-system limitation. It does not mean every record created after that date will necessarily appear online, nor that all older documents are available electronically.
Before traveling, call the Clerk at 419-424-7037 and explain the approximate filing date, court division, case number if known, and type of document needed. Ask whether the file can be located and what copy or certification arrangements apply.
How to Obtain Court Documents and Certified Copies
Finding a case online is usually only the first step when you need a legal document. A public docket may confirm that an order or judgment exists without displaying the complete document.
| What you need | What to request |
|---|---|
| Case status or hearing history | Review the public docket and verify recent changes with the court if necessary. |
| Complaint, motion, order, or judgment | Ask the record-holding clerk whether an accessible copy is available. |
| Divorce decree | Contact Common Pleas / Domestic Relations through the Clerk of Courts. |
| Marriage-license or probate document | Contact Hancock County Probate Court. |
| Certified court document | Request a certified copy from the responsible clerk and confirm the applicable fee. |
| Older Common Pleas file | Contact or visit the Hancock County Clerk of Courts Legal Department. |
Information to prepare for a records request
- Full case number, if available.
- Names of the parties as shown on the case.
- Court division and approximate filing date.
- Document title or docket-entry date.
- Whether an ordinary copy or a certified copy is required.
- Preferred delivery method, subject to the clerk’s options.
Ask the office to confirm costs, turnaround expectations, acceptable payment methods, and whether an in-person visit is necessary. Different types of copies and services may carry different charges.

2026 Attorney E-Filing Rule: What Record Searchers Need to Know
Effective January 1, 2026, Hancock County requires attorneys to use the Clerk of Courts electronic filing system. The Clerk’s notice states that paper and fax filings from attorneys are no longer accepted.
This requirement concerns filing court documents. It should not be confused with ordinary public case lookup. The county portal distinguishes public case search from electronic filing for registered attorneys.
Anyone representing themselves should confirm the currently accepted filing procedures directly with the Clerk. Being able to read a public docket does not grant access to file documents electronically as an attorney.

Official Juvenile Court ↗Are Hancock County Court Records Public?
Many Ohio court records are open to public inspection, but public access and online access are not the same. Ohio’s court-record access framework distinguishes case documents, public access, and restricted information. The applicable Supreme Court of Ohio rules should be checked in their current version, since the Rules of Superintendence were restructured in 2026.
Records or information may be unavailable online or restricted because of juvenile confidentiality, sealing, adoption-related protections, personal identifiers, specific court orders, or other applicable laws and rules.
See the Supreme Court of Ohio’s current court rules for the governing framework.

Can I search Hancock County criminal records online?
You can search eligible public felony case records in the county Common Pleas system and municipal misdemeanor or traffic cases through Findlay Municipal Court. Neither system should be assumed to provide a complete criminal-history report.
Are Hancock County court records free to view?
The county makes public case-search functionality available online. The Clerk also publishes a $15 fee for its listed Record Search service, but that should not be confused with a universal online lookup charge. Copies, certifications, and other services may have different fees.
How do I find a Hancock County divorce decree?
Use the Common Pleas domestic relations record route through the Hancock County Clerk of Courts. If you need an official certified divorce decree, request it from the Clerk rather than relying on an online docket.
How do I find a Hancock County marriage record?
Marriage-license records are handled by Hancock County Probate Court, not the Common Pleas domestic relations clerk. The Probate Court can explain its marriage record and certified-copy procedures.

Does a Hancock County case search show certified documents?
Not necessarily. Case details and docket entries may be available without the underlying images, and an online display is not the same as a clerk-certified copy. Contact the record-holding court when certification is required.
