Search Washington County Court Records Through the Right Oregon System
Most state trial-court records in Washington County are maintained through the Oregon Judicial Department and Washington County Circuit Court. Basic case information uses Oregon’s statewide online search, while detailed Register of Actions access, actual court documents, certified copies and local Justice Court matters follow different routes.
Use this guide to search a person or case number, confirm that Washington County is the correct filing court, distinguish Circuit Court from Justice or municipal court, recover a missing case and request the exact document when an online case summary is not enough.
Choose the Route That Matches What You Need
When the service is available, search the legal name and then narrow to Washington County, case type or filing period only as needed.
Name-search workflow →A complete case number is usually the cleanest route to one file. Save it for every later records or copy request.
Case-number workflow →A free online result does not provide every pleading, order, judgment or decree. Request the exact record from the court that holds the file.
Copy-request workflow →Washington County Justice Court and city municipal courts are separate local courts and may require direct local contact.
Local-court routing →Which Washington County Court Has the Record?
Washington County Circuit Court is the main Oregon state trial court for the county, but it is not the only court operating locally. The court name printed on a citation, summons, complaint or judgment is the most reliable routing clue.
Use Circuit Court for state criminal, civil, domestic-relations, probate, landlord-tenant and many other trial-court cases filed in Washington County.
The county Justice Court handles most state motor-vehicle-code violations, certain misdemeanors and qualifying civil or small-claims disputes up to its jurisdictional limit.
A citation from Beaverton, Hillsboro or another city may identify a municipal court rather than Circuit Court or County Justice Court. Contact the named city court directly.
Federal district, bankruptcy and appellate records use PACER and do not belong in Oregon’s county Circuit Court case-search system.
| Case clue | Likely route | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Felony criminal case | Circuit Court | Use OJD case search, then Washington County Circuit Court Records for filed documents. |
| Divorce, custody or family case | Circuit Court | Search the state system, then request the decree or order from the local Circuit Court if needed. |
| Probate matter | Circuit Court | Search the Circuit Court record and request the specific probate document from Records. |
| Justice Court traffic or small claim | Washington County Justice Court | Use the Justice Court named on the citation or filing rather than assuming it appears in Circuit Court. |
| City violation or municipal citation | Municipal Court | Contact the municipal court printed on the citation. |
| U.S. District or bankruptcy case | PACER | Use the federal PACER system rather than Oregon OJD. |
Use Oregon’s Free Records Search for Basic Case Information
Oregon Judicial Department provides free online access to basic public case information for Oregon Circuit Courts and the Tax Court through its Records and Calendar Search page. Registration is not normally required for the free search.
The free service is designed to help locate a case and review basic public information. It should not be treated as the complete court file or as an automatically certified official record.
For a statewide explanation of Oregon’s free search, outages, OJCIN and copy procedures, see Oregon Court Records Search by Name.
How to Search Washington County OR Court Records in 7 Steps
- Confirm that Washington County, Oregon is the filing location. Check the complaint, citation, notice, order or other paperwork for the court name and county before searching.
- Identify Circuit, Justice, municipal or federal court. A correct name entered in the wrong court system can produce no result even when the case exists.
- Open the Oregon Judicial Department free record-search page. Check the current portal status before relying on an old bookmark or commercial court-record site.
- Use the complete case number first when you have it. It usually gives a cleaner result than a common party name and is important for later document requests.
- When searching a name, start with reliable information only. Enter the legal first and last name, then add county, filing year or case type after reviewing the first results.
- Verify the case before relying on it. Compare venue, case type, party role, filing date, later docket events and disposition.
- Request the actual filing when the summary is not enough. Use the Washington County Circuit Court Records Department for a public Circuit Court document, certification or exemplification.
Search Washington County Court Records by Name Carefully
A name search is useful when the case number is unknown, but Oregon’s public systems intentionally limit some personal identifying information. A matching first and last name therefore needs contextual verification.
Use the Case Number When You Already Know It
A complete case number is generally the strongest search identifier because it points to one file within a particular court system. Keep every letter, number and suffix shown on the court document.
When OJCIN OnLine Is Different From the Free Search
OJCIN OnLine is Oregon Judicial Department’s paid subscription service for more extensive court-case information. It includes OECI for all 36 Oregon Circuit Courts and the Tax Court, plus ACMS for appellate records.
Free OJD search
Best for a visitor trying to identify a public case, court, party, filing date, event or disposition without paying for a subscription.
It is not the same thing as receiving the filed pleading, signed judgment or certified record.
OJCIN OnLine
Designed for more extensive Register of Actions and judgment-record access across Oregon’s Circuit, Tax and appellate courts.
Oregon states that online document access is not available to every type of subscriber. A one-time document request may be more practical than subscribing solely for one case.
Washington County Justice Court and Municipal Courts Need Separate Routing
A citation that names Washington County Justice Court or a city municipal court should not automatically be searched as a Washington County Circuit Court case.

Information to prepare for a record request
If you are unsure whether you need a docket, judgment, transcript or certified document, compare the site’s Court Record Types Explained and Court Records Glossary.
Regular, Certified and Exemplified Copies Serve Different Purposes
| Copy type | What it is | When to confirm requirements |
|---|---|---|
| Regular copy | Paper or electronic copy of a document filed in the case. | Useful for review when formal authentication is not required. |
| Certified copy | Copy authenticated by a court clerk with the applicable certification, seal and signature. | Ask the receiving agency whether it requires paper or accepts electronic certification. |
| Exemplified copy | A higher level of court authentication sometimes called a three-way certificate. | Often requested for use in another jurisdiction; verify before paying. |
Need the Hearing Audio Instead of the Filed Documents?
Washington County Circuit Court records hearings and trials and provides a separate process for requesting audio recordings. An audio copy is not the same thing as a written transcript.
The court currently publishes a turnaround estimate of 5–10 business days for audio-copy requests. The published electronic recording cost is $10 per proceeding; a CD adds a separate $1 media charge, and mailing can add postage.
No Washington County Court Record Appears? Use This Recovery Ladder
A blank online result does not establish that no record exists. Court level, portal status, spelling, case age, confidentiality and local-court jurisdiction can all affect what appears online.
- Check the OJD portal status. A temporary outage can produce an access problem rather than a true zero result.
- Remove optional name filters. Try the basic first and last name again.
- Search name variations. Test a former surname, middle initial or business-name variation.
- Use the complete case number. Search the identifier from any existing court document.
- Verify Washington County. The person may have a case in another Oregon county.
- Check Justice or municipal court. A citation may belong to a separate local court.
- Use a courthouse public terminal. Oregon provides free local public-access terminals for public court information.
- Ask about older or non-digitized records. Contact the Washington County Records Department when the case predates current online coverage.
- Check access restrictions. Adoption, juvenile and other protected records can have limited public access.
- Use PACER for a federal matter. Federal cases do not appear in Oregon Circuit Court search systems.
Some Washington County Records Have Remote or Public-Access Limits
Oregon does not make every case or filing available through its public online systems. Records involving adoption, juvenile matters, certain mental-health proceedings, VAWA-protected matters and sealed or confidential filings can have statutory or court-ordered restrictions.
The Washington County Circuit Court specifically warns that adoption and juvenile records may require additional paperwork, identification or in-person pickup, and a request can be denied when the requester is not legally entitled to the record.
Federal Cases Use PACER, Not Washington County Circuit Court Search
A federal civil, criminal, bankruptcy or appellate case uses the federal Judiciary’s PACER system. It remains separate from Oregon Judicial Department and Washington County Circuit Court even when the parties live in Washington County.
If you already know the specific federal court, search that court directly. If you know a person’s or company’s name but not the federal court, use PACER Case Locator.
See the site’s Federal Court Records Search: PACER & Cases guide for the federal workflow.

Do Not Confuse These Washington County Records With Court Cases
| Record | Why it is different | Where to start |
|---|---|---|
| Deed, lien or recorded instrument | Recorded property documents are not Circuit Court case files. | Washington County Recording Office. |
| Police or Sheriff’s report | Law-enforcement records are maintained separately from the court docket. | The responsible law-enforcement agency. |
| Current jail custody | Custody status is different from the complete criminal court case. | Washington County Sheriff’s custody resources, then OJD for the case. |
| Marriage or recorded public document | These records use county recording or administrative systems rather than a court-case docket. | Washington County Recording services. |
Verify the Case Outcome Before Drawing a Conclusion
A public search result helps locate a case. It does not prove that a same-name person committed an offense, owes money, lost a lawsuit or received a particular final judgment.
