Find Nassau County Court Records by Name, Case Number or Court
Looking for a civil lawsuit, criminal case, court date, divorce record, probate filing or certified judgment in Nassau County, New York? The right search depends on which court handled the case and whether its records are available electronically.
Which Nassau County Court Has Your Record?
Nassau County is within New York’s Tenth Judicial District. It has several trial courts, and one countywide search cannot necessarily retrieve every type of case. Begin by identifying the court and its authority.
| Court or office | Typical matters | Where to begin |
|---|---|---|
| Supreme Court | Major civil litigation, foreclosure and matrimonial proceedings. | WebCivil Supreme, NYSCEF or the Supreme Court clerk. |
| County Court | Felony criminal matters and certain civil proceedings. | WebCriminal where covered, then County Court. |
| District Court | Misdemeanors, violations, local civil claims, small claims and landlord-tenant cases. | WebCivil Local, WebCriminal or District Court clerk. |
| Family Court | Custody, child support, family offenses, guardianship and juvenile matters. | Family Court, subject to confidentiality restrictions. |
| Surrogate’s Court | Probate, estates, administration and related proceedings. | WebSurrogate or Surrogate’s Court records office. |
| City / Town / Village Courts | Local matters within the court’s geographic and subject-matter authority. | Relevant local court; confirm coverage before using eCourts. |
Why the distinction matters: A lawsuit involving a large civil claim may be recorded in Supreme Court, while a small-claims case may be in District Court. A will belongs to the Surrogate’s Court system, not the Supreme Court civil search. Divorce cases and child-custody proceedings also do not have identical public-access rules.
Use the official Tenth Judicial District Nassau directory to identify an appropriate courthouse or department.
Official Nassau County Court Records Search Tools
New York’s judiciary provides several separate online tools. Use the system that corresponds to the case rather than searching every portal indiscriminately.
WebCivil Supreme
Search Supreme Court civil case information, such as parties, index numbers, case activity and scheduled appearances where available. A case entry does not necessarily provide its filed documents.
Access WebCivil Supreme ↗NYSCEF Guest Search
For eligible e-filed cases, use NYSCEF’s guest search to find public case entries and view documents made accessible to public users. Availability varies by case and document.
Open NYSCEF ↗WebCivil Local
Use this service for covered District Court and other local-court civil matters, including certain small-claims and landlord-tenant proceedings.
Access WebCivil Local ↗WebCriminal
Find available criminal case and court-appearance information. It is not a comprehensive public criminal-history database and does not display every sealed, closed or older case.
Access WebCriminal ↗WebSurrogate
Look up available Surrogate’s Court indexes and filings. Nassau’s published remote-document limitation makes the filing date especially important for older estates.
Open WebSurrogate ↗Nassau County Clerk
Find County Clerk instructions for accessing records, submitting document requests, obtaining certified copies and checking applicable charges.
Open County Clerk Instructions ↗How to Search Nassau County Court Records in 7 Steps
These steps apply to ordinary public searches. Restricted case types may require authorization, proof of identity or a direct request to the court rather than online access.
Identify New York as the jurisdiction
Confirm the case belongs to Nassau County, New York. A search for Nassau County, Florida must use the Florida Clerk’s system.
Choose the correct case category
Determine whether the matter involves Supreme Court civil litigation, criminal proceedings, District Court, probate, family law or a local court.
Open the corresponding official tool
From New York eCourts, choose WebCivil Supreme, WebCivil Local, WebCriminal or WebSurrogate as appropriate. Use NYSCEF for eligible electronic case filings.
Enter the available search information
Use a complete case or index number when possible. Otherwise search the party name, using the portal’s supported criteria. Keep spelling and formatting accurate.
Verify that the result is the right case
Compare the court, parties, case number, filing date, matter type and other public details. A matching name alone does not establish identity.
Examine the docket or available documents
Read the case status, dates and entries. If the filing itself is needed, check NYSCEF document access or ask the record-holding clerk.
Request official copies when necessary
Contact the responsible court or County Clerk, specify the case and document needed, and confirm copy fees, certification requirements, delivery options and access restrictions.
Find Civil, Criminal, Small Claims and Landlord-Tenant Records
Civil lawsuits and judgments
Nassau Supreme Court hears major civil matters and other cases within its authority. Search WebCivil Supreme for covered case information, and use NYSCEF to check available e-filed documents. Older paper files or records unavailable online may require a request to the clerk.
The Nassau County Supreme Court is located at 100 Supreme Court Drive, Mineola, NY 11501. Its official telephone number is 516-493-3400.
Felony criminal cases
Nassau County Court handles felony criminal trials and other matters within its jurisdiction. WebCriminal may provide available public appearance information, but a complete record or certificate of disposition may require the court clerk.
The County Court lists 262 Old Country Road, Mineola, NY 11501, and telephone 516-493-3710.
Small claims and local civil cases
Nassau District Court handles general civil suits involving up to $15,000 and small claims involving up to $5,000, among other matters. WebCivil Local can help identify covered civil case activity.
The District Court is at 99 Main Street, Hempstead, NY 11550. Telephone: 516-493-4200.
Misdemeanors and violations
Nassau District Court handles misdemeanors, violations, certain traffic matters and felony arraignments. City, town and village courts may handle other local cases. Confirm which court issued the summons or processed the charge before making a records request.
For traffic or parking matters, check whether the case is with a court or a separate violations authority rather than assuming it appears in a criminal case search.
A criminal docket can contain charges or pending appearances rather than a final outcome. Do not treat a charge as proof of a conviction. For an official disposition, confirm the proper court and its certificate procedure.
Divorce, Family Court, Probate and Estate Records
Divorce and Matrimonial Records
Divorce proceedings in Nassau County are handled through Supreme Court’s matrimonial system. The Matrimonial Center is now located at 101 County Seat Drive, Mineola, NY 11501, third floor. Telephone: 516-493-3444.
The court’s relocation took effect in June 2025. Older directions identifying 400 County Seat Drive as the Matrimonial Center may therefore be outdated.
Divorce records can involve confidentiality restrictions. Online case information does not mean a divorce judgment or underlying confidential document is available to everyone. Request authorized records through the appropriate clerk and confirm proof-of-entitlement requirements.

Family Court Records
Nassau Family Court handles child support, custody, visitation, family offenses, juvenile matters and other eligible family cases. Many Family Court records are confidential, and access may be limited to parties, attorneys or people authorized by the court.
The Family Court is located at 101 County Seat Drive, Mineola, NY 11501, on the first and second floors. Telephone: 516-493-4000.
Do not assume a public name search can reveal a custody, adoption or juvenile proceeding.

Probate, Wills and Estate Files
Nassau County Surrogate’s Court handles probate and estate administration. Use WebSurrogate for its available index and public-document access. If a family member has died and you need estate documents, begin with the person’s name, approximate date of death and any known estate file number.
The court’s published remote-access notice states that document links are limited to filings on or after February 19, 2014. Earlier documents may be reviewed using public computers at the courthouse, subject to applicable restrictions.
The Surrogate’s Court is at 262 Old Country Road, third floor, Mineola, NY 11501. Main telephone: 516-493-3800. Its records department lists 516-493-3821 for copies, certifications and related record requests.
WebSurrogate’s public search does not make adoption proceedings or wills held for safekeeping publicly searchable. The Surrogate’s Court also states that adoption processing moved to Nassau Family Court in October 2025.
Nassau County Court Records Search and Copy Fees
Searching a public online case index is different from requesting a clerk-performed search or a certified document. The Nassau County Clerk publishes the following fees for services within its office’s authority.
| County Clerk service | Published fee | Important detail |
|---|---|---|
| Ordinary copy | $0.65 per page | $1.30 minimum. |
| Certified copy | $1.25 per page | $5.00 minimum. |
| Certify a prepared copy | $0.65 per page | $5.20 minimum. |
| Exemplification | $10.00 | Plus applicable certification charges. |
| Court record name search | $5.00 | For each consecutive two-year period or fraction, per name searched. |
| Search for divorce/annulment judgment | $5.00 | Separate listed search service. |
| Certificate of disposition issuance | $5.00 | As listed on the County Clerk fee schedule. |
These are County Clerk fees, not a universal schedule for every Nassau court. For example, the New York State court system lists a separate $95 statewide Criminal History Record Search service. That service is different from locating an individual docket or requesting a case document.
Card-payment processing charges may apply. The County Clerk’s current operating instructions list a $0.68 transaction fee and a 3.25% convenience fee for credit-card payments. Confirm applicability to your transaction.
How to Obtain a Court Record or Certified Copy
First distinguish between a case summary, a document image, an ordinary copy and a certified copy. An online docket may be sufficient to learn a court date, but not for an agency requiring a formal certified judgment.
1. Identify the record
Record the court, case number, full case caption and filing year. Identify the exact item needed, such as a judgment, order, certificate of disposition or pleading.
2. Identify the custodian
Contact the clerk of the court that holds the file. Supreme Court or County Clerk processes may differ from District, Family and Surrogate’s Court procedures.
3. Confirm access and cost
Ask if the record is public, sealed, archived or accessible only to authorized persons. Confirm the cost for copying, certification, exemplification and any records search.
4. Submit the request correctly
Follow the responsible office’s current instructions. Include payment and return-mail materials when required. Do not mail sensitive identity documents unless the official office directs you to do so.
The Nassau County Clerk states that document requests may be submitted by mail/delivery, lobby drop box or in person. Requests requiring return of physical documents may need a self-addressed stamped envelope and appropriate payment information.

Court directory ↗Why Can’t You Find a Nassau County Court Record?
An unsuccessful search may reflect a jurisdiction or coverage problem rather than the absence of a case.
| Problem | Possible explanation | Practical next step |
|---|---|---|
| No matching name | Spelling differences, alternate party names or incorrect court. | Try supported name variations and verify the correct court. |
| Case number not found | Wrong index-number format, filing year or system. | Check the original court notice, then contact the clerk if unresolved. |
| Docket without documents | The portal may publish metadata but not document images. | Check NYSCEF eligibility or request the document from the custodian. |
| Older probate document missing | Remote WebSurrogate document links have a filing-date limitation. | Contact or visit Nassau Surrogate’s Court to discuss courthouse access. |
| Family or sealed case absent | Confidentiality rules may prevent public disclosure. | Ask the court what authorization is required; do not attempt to bypass restrictions. |
| Matter is in a different state | Nassau, Florida and Nassau, New York have different courts. | Use the appropriate state’s official court-record system. |
| Case recently filed | Filing, processing or portal updates may not be immediate. | Recheck later or verify with the record-holding clerk. |
What if the record is sealed, expunged or confidential?
Public access is restricted for certain records by statute, court order or administrative rule. The appropriate court can explain the process for requesting access if you are legally entitled to it. A public portal’s absence of a result does not establish that a sealed record does or does not exist.
What if the case is decades old?
Ask the clerk about archived, paper, microfilmed or transferred files. Provide as much identifying case information as reasonably available. Historical record retrieval may use a different process and may involve fees or processing time.
Nassau County Court Records — Frequently Asked Questions
Can I search Nassau County court records for free?
New York provides public online case-search tools without requiring a paid County Clerk records request merely to use the search interface. However, coverage varies. Certified copies, clerk-assisted searches, statewide criminal-history searches and other services can carry fees.
How do I search Nassau County court records by name?
Identify the correct court, open its supported official search tool and use the party-name search option if available. Compare the case number, court and public details to verify a likely match. Do not assume people with the same name are the same person.
Where can I find Nassau County criminal cases?
Start with the official WebCriminal service for available case and appearance information. Nassau County Court handles felony criminal trials, while District Court handles misdemeanors and certain other criminal matters. Records unavailable online should be requested from the appropriate court clerk.
Can I view Nassau County divorce records online?
Limited civil case information may be available through official tools, but divorce files and judgments can have special confidentiality rules. Contact the Nassau Supreme Court matrimonial records office for access eligibility and certified-copy instructions.
How do I get a certified Nassau County court judgment?
Identify the court and case number, then request certification through the clerk or records custodian. County Clerk copy rates are published separately from individual court-service charges. Confirm the document, fee and method of delivery before submitting the request.
Are old Nassau County probate records available online?
WebSurrogate permits limited online searching, but Nassau’s published remote-document access is limited to filings dated February 19, 2014 or later. For older documents, ask the Surrogate’s Court about public courthouse computers and other authorized record access.
Does Nassau County, Florida use the same court records website?
No. Nassau County, Florida uses the Florida court and clerk system. Visit the Nassau County Florida Clerk’s records search for that jurisdiction.
Your Next Step: Use the Correct Official Court System
If you know the court or case number, begin with the appropriate eCourts tool. If you need an electronically filed document, examine NYSCEF. For an older file, certified copy or restricted record, contact the correct clerk before visiting.
