Find the Correct Manatee County Court Case Before You Pay for a Record
Manatee County gives the public a useful free court-record portal, but searching the name is only the first step. The same Clerk website also contains Official Records, newly filed cases, hearing information and restricted-document tools, so choosing the wrong search can make a real case look missing.
This guide shows how to search a person, business, case number or citation; tell a docket from an official copy; unlock a View-on-Request document; handle probate or domestic-relations access; find records dating back to 1855; and go to the correct Bradenton building if the online route is not enough.
Choose the Shortcut That Matches What You Have
The official portal gives you several entry points. A name search is useful when you know little; a case or citation number is better when you already have it.
Begin with last and first name. Add a case-type filter only after the broad search.
Use the name workflowA number is more precise and avoids wasting time on unrelated people with similar names.
Use the exact identifierManatee has a separate list that builds throughout the day and resets at midnight.
Check recent filingsFind the docket entry first, then choose plain, certified, electronic or authenticated copy service.
Compare copy optionsUse the Right Manatee Court Search Instead of Forcing Everything Through a Name
Public Access & Research currently lists five primary ways to search a court record: person name, business name, case number, citation number and case type. The Court Records landing page also links newly filed cases and today’s judicial docket.
On a phone, swipe the table horizontally →
| What you know | Search to use | Best reason to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Person’s legal name | Person’s Name | Best discovery route when the case number is unknown. |
| Company or organization | Business Name | Avoids squeezing an LLC, corporation or association into person-name fields. |
| Full case number | Case Number | Fastest way to reopen one specific case. |
| Traffic citation | Citation Number | Useful when the citation is available but the court case number is not. |
| Known filing category | Case / Filing Type | Helpful for targeted research after you know the correct case category. |
| A filing made today | New Cases Filed Today | Useful before the new case is easy to locate through ordinary search. |
| Today’s court activity | Judge Docket / Today’s Hearing | Use when the real question is about a current court setting. |
How to Search Manatee County Court Records by Name
The most reliable method is deliberately simple: broad name first, legitimate variation second, controlled filter third. Adding too many assumptions during the first search makes a real record easier to miss.
- Open Court Records, not Official Records. A lawsuit, criminal prosecution, divorce, probate case, traffic matter or small claim belongs in the Court Records search.
- Select Person’s Name. Use Business Name instead when the party is a company, association, bank, landlord entity or other organization.
- Enter the last and first name. Do not add an uncertain case-type restriction during the first attempt.
- Review the broad result list. Compare case type and filing date before assuming a same-name record belongs to the intended person.
- Run a second search with a legitimate variation. Try a former surname, middle initial or different documented spelling when appropriate.
- Add one reliable case-type filter only if needed. Narrowing is useful when the broad result list contains many unrelated cases.
- Open the case and read later docket entries. Do not stop at the original complaint, charge or petition.
- Save the entire case number. Use that number for future searches, copy requests and questions to the Clerk.
Once You Have the Case Number, Stop Repeating the Name Search
Manatee provides a dedicated case-number search. This is usually the cleanest way to return to a known file because it avoids duplicate-name results.
Look for the number on these records
- Court search result
- Summons or complaint
- Traffic citation
- Notice of hearing
- Judgment or order
- Attorney correspondence
- Previous Clerk receipt
Read the Docket as a Timeline, Not as a Background-Check Summary
The Clerk’s portal states that its online data is provided for informational purposes and is not intended to act as an authoritative public record or legal document. Use it to locate and understand the file; obtain the Clerk-issued record when official proof matters.
On a phone, swipe the table horizontally →
| Field | What to learn from it | What not to assume |
|---|---|---|
| Case number | Identifies this specific court file. | Do not shorten it when requesting records. |
| Party / role | Shows how a person or organization participates in the case. | A matching name does not prove identity. |
| Case type | Separates civil, criminal, family, probate, traffic and other categories. | One case does not represent every record involving the person. |
| File date | Helps match the case to the event or time period you are researching. | A similarly named older case may concern someone else. |
| Status | Shows the Clerk’s current case-status classification. | Status alone does not explain the legal outcome. |
| Docket / progress record | Chronological entries for filings, hearings, notices and orders. | A docket line does not guarantee a public downloadable image. |
| Disposition / judgment | Helps identify the recorded outcome. | An initial charge or complaint is not the final result. |
For unfamiliar terms, use the site’s Court Records Glossary .
Use Manatee’s Current $50,000 County-Civil Limit
Some older web pages still describe Florida’s previous civil-jurisdiction limit. Current Manatee Clerk materials place small claims at $8,000 or less, county civil above $8,000 through $50,000, and circuit civil generally above $50,000.
On a phone, swipe the table horizontally →
| Matter | Likely court category | Current local threshold / route |
|---|---|---|
| Small monetary dispute | Small Claims / County Court | $8,000 or less, excluding costs, interest and attorney fees. |
| County civil dispute | County Civil | $8,001 through $50,000. |
| Larger civil dispute | Circuit Civil | Generally more than $50,000. |
| Misdemeanor | County Criminal | Use the Clerk’s Court Records search. |
| Felony | Circuit Criminal | Use the Court Records search and confirm the criminal case type. |
| Divorce / family case | Circuit Family | Public case information may be searchable; remote document access can be more restricted. |
| Probate / guardianship | Circuit Probate | Searchable case information may exist, but eligible document images can require registration. |
For statewide context, see the verified Florida Court Records Search by Name guide .
Understand the Four Document-Access States Before You Assume a File Is Sealed
Manatee’s system separates ordinary public images, View-on-Request records, role-based registered access and confidential records. These categories solve different problems.
Ordinary public images
The Clerk states that there is no longer a subscription or website-login requirement simply to access ordinary public court-document images.
View on Request
A lock icon can identify a View-on-Request document. These records have a higher probability of sensitive information and require manual review before release for public viewing.
- Open the docket entry with the lock icon.
- Click the lock.
- Enter your email address.
- Submit the request once.
- Allow up to 24 hours under the Clerk’s current guidance.
- Check spam or junk folders before submitting a duplicate request.
Probate and domestic-relations documents
The Clerk’s Public Access page states that registration is necessary to view eligible documents in probate and domestic-relations case types.
Confidential documents
The Clerk separately identifies records that are non-public or restricted by statute, rule or court order. A free account does not transform a confidential document into a public one.
The Registration PDF Does Not Mean Every Search Needs a Notary
This is an easy point to misread. Basic public searching does not require an account, and the Clerk also allows users to create a normal Public Records Hub account online. The currently linked statewide agreement then describes different registered-user roles that can receive different levels of electronic access.
What the official registration agreement asks for
- Name
- Email address
- Street address
- City, state and ZIP code
- Telephone number
- User / login name
- Case numbers when requesting case-specific access
- Business-entity name when applicable
- Florida Bar number for attorneys
Which categories are marked for an oath or notarization?
The PDF specifically marks a party to a case, an authorized officer, owner or employee of a business entity that is a party, and a registered attorney as categories requiring an oath or notarization. The form lists an ordinary registered user separately.
Where the downloadable agreement can be delivered
The currently hosted form lists mail to the ServiceDesk at P.O. Box 25400, hand delivery to 1115 Manatee Avenue West, email to servicedesk@manateeclerk.com, and fax as submission methods.
Get the Right Court Copy Without Paying for Unnecessary Research
The most important money-saving step is finding the case number yourself. Manatee’s current fee schedule adds a record-search charge when Clerk staff must search because a case number was not supplied.
On a phone, swipe the table horizontally →
| Service | Current published charge | Useful note |
|---|---|---|
| Standard 8½ × 11 copy | $1.00 per page | Ordinary Clerk-produced record copy. |
| Certification | $2.00 per certification | Request only when the recipient needs an officially certified record. |
| Search without a case number | $2.00 per year searched | Finding the case number online first can avoid unnecessary search cost. |
| Certificate of Clerk | $7.00 | A separate Clerk certificate service. |
| 18 × 24 document | $5.00 per page | Applies to the listed larger document size. |
| Exemplified / authenticated copy | Copy charge + $7 Clerk certificate + $7 court certificate | Order this higher authentication level only when specifically required. |
Electronic certified court records
Registered users can order eligible certified court records electronically instead of requesting a traditional paper-certified copy.
- Log in to the Public Records Hub. Create a free account first when needed.
- Open the correct case. Verify the case number and document title before ordering.
- Select Certified Print. This adds the eligible document to the shopping cart.
- Open the cart and complete checkout. Follow the Clerk’s current payment and delivery instructions.
If the document cannot be ordered online
Public Access & Research currently directs users to provide the case number when contacting the Copy Center at clerkscopycenter@manateeclerk.com or 941-741-4040.
“I located case [complete case number]. I need a [plain/certified] copy of [exact document title or docket date]. Can you confirm whether I can order it electronically and the total copy, certification and research cost before I pay?”
Court Records, Official Records, Arrest Records and County Public Records Are Different
Several Manatee websites contain the words “public records,” but they do not maintain the same information.
On a phone, swipe the table horizontally →
| You need | Correct custodian | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Court case | Manatee Clerk — Court Records | Criminal case, civil lawsuit, divorce, probate case, eviction, small claim or traffic case. |
| Recorded document | Manatee Clerk — Official Records | Deed, mortgage, lien, recorded judgment or marriage-license record. |
| County administrative record | Manatee County Government | Permitting, code, administrative or other county-department material. |
| Jail / recent arrest information | Manatee County Sheriff’s Office | Current inmates and people released from county jail within the Sheriff’s published window. |
| Florida criminal history | FDLE | Separate statewide Florida criminal-history search. |
If the Filing Happened Today, Use “New Cases Filed Today”
Manatee has a useful tool that most generic record pages omit. New Cases Filed Today shows publicly viewable newly recorded court cases without requiring a search keyword.
How the list behaves
- It resets at midnight.
- New cases populate as they are filed.
- The list grows during the day.
- It includes publicly viewable civil, family and criminal cases allowed by current access rules.
If You Only Need the Court Date, Use the Hearing/Docket Route
The Court Records search page currently includes a Judge Docket / Today’s Hearing option. This is a better starting point when your question is about today’s court activity rather than the history of every filing in the case.
For an important appearance
- Open the correct case using the case number when possible.
- Compare the online setting with your latest notice or court order.
- Check the courthouse and judge/division shown on the current docket.
- Confirm a changed or unclear setting before relying on it.

If You Need What Was Said in Court, Ask for a Transcript or Recording—not a Case Copy
A Clerk case file contains pleadings, orders and docket entries. A transcript is the written record of what was said during a reported or recorded proceeding, and not every type of hearing automatically produces a transcript.

An Arrest Search, Manatee Criminal Case and FDLE Check Are Three Different Records
The Sheriff’s arrest inquiry is useful for current jail custody and people released within the Sheriff’s published recent period. It does not provide the final disposition of the criminal prosecution; the Sheriff’s own page directs users to the Clerk for that result.
On a phone, swipe the table horizontally →
| Question | Correct source | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Is someone currently or recently in Manatee jail? | Manatee County Sheriff | Arrest inquiry is a custody/booking resource, not the court disposition. |
| What happened to this Manatee criminal charge? | Manatee Clerk Court Records | Read the criminal court case and disposition. |
| What Florida criminal history does the state repository return? | FDLE | Separate statewide criminal-history product. |
Current FDLE public-search price
FDLE currently lists its Instant Florida Criminal History Search at $24 per search plus a $1 credit-card processing fee. Instant-search results are not certified.
Use the Removal Form When Protected Information Appears Online
Manatee publishes a specific Request for Removal of Information form. It is designed around exact document identification—not a vague request to remove a person’s name from every court record.
What the official PDF requires for a court record
- Requester name and contact information
- Relationship to the person whose information is involved
- Type of information requested to be removed
- Exact case number
- Exact page number
- Document name
- The specific information requested to be removed
- Signature and date
Information categories listed on the form
- Social Security number
- Bank-account number
- Credit or charge-card number
- Debit-card number
- Death-certificate image
- Qualifying court-record image
- Military-discharge record
Family, juvenile and probate internet images
The Clerk’s current public-access guidance states that an eligible person may request removal from the publicly available website of specified court files governed by Florida family-law, juvenile or probate rules. The Clerk says no fee is charged for the statutory internet-image removal request.
Juvenile and adoption files require a different access route
Public Access states that it cannot provide ordinary assistance with Juvenile or Adoption records. A party seeking authorized information must use the Family/Juvenile department and present identification.
A Manatee Appeal Moves to Florida’s Second District System
Manatee County is part of Florida’s Twelfth Judicial Circuit. The Second District Court of Appeal hears appeals from the Twelfth Circuit, which includes Manatee, Sarasota and DeSoto counties.
Florida’s Appellate Case Information System, or ACIS, lets users search dockets and available case documents across Florida’s appellate courts.
Federal Cases From Manatee County Use the Tampa Division and PACER
State and county court-search tools do not contain federal district-court cases. The Middle District of Florida’s Tampa Division serves Manatee County.
801 North Florida Avenue
Tampa, FL 33602
Telephone: 813-301-5400
Use PACER for federal district, bankruptcy and federal appellate case information.
No Result? Diagnose the Failure Before You Pay Someone Else to Search
The name is indexed differently
Remove a middle name, test a legitimate former surname or another documented spelling.
You narrowed by case type too early
Clear the case-type filter and run the first and last name again.
The case was filed today
Use New Cases Filed Today and check again later as the list grows.
You opened Official Records
Return to Court Records for criminal, civil, family, probate, traffic and small-claims cases.
The docket shows a lock icon
Try View on Request before assuming the document is confidential.
It is probate or domestic relations
Eligible document images can require a registered-user account.
The document is actually confidential
Registration does not override a sealing order or legal access restriction.
The file is old
Ask Public Access or the Historical Records Library rather than concluding that no record exists.
It is an appeal
Use Florida ACIS for appellate court records.
It is federal
Use PACER and the Middle District of Florida rather than Manatee Clerk search.
Use this recovery order
- Search first and last name only. Remove uncertain restrictions.
- Try one legitimate name variation. Avoid random combinations that increase same-name confusion.
- Search by case or citation number. Use paperwork whenever available.
- Check today’s new cases. Useful when the filing is extremely recent.
- Check whether the document is VOR. Click the lock and submit the email request once.
- Register only when the access category requires it. Probate and domestic-relations images are a common reason.
- Contact Public Access with the case number. Ask for the exact document rather than “everything on this person.”
- Check the archive for an older case. Provide the approximate year.
- Use ACIS for an appeal. Save both the trial and appellate case numbers.
- Use PACER for federal court. Manatee County federal cases are served through the Tampa Division.
Prepare These Details Before Calling the Clerk
Full legal name, former surname or business name when relevant.
Complete case number, citation number, case type and approximate filing year.
Docket, final order, judgment, sentencing document, plain copy, certified copy or transcript.
“I found Manatee County case [case number]. I need [exact document]. The portal shows [public image / lock / no image]. Can you tell me whether I should use View on Request, certified electronic ordering, or submit a copy request?”
Use the Result for Navigation, Not for a One-Line Judgment About a Person
- A criminal charge is not proof of conviction.
- An arrest record is not the final court disposition.
- A civil complaint is not proof that the plaintiff won.
- A petition is not proof that the requested relief was granted.
- A same-name case is not identity verification.
- A public PDF is not automatically a certified copy.
- A Manatee court search is not a statewide Florida criminal-history report.
If you are unsure which document you need, use Court Record Types Explained .
Do not use this website as an employment, housing, credit, insurance or other eligibility-screening service. Review the FCRA and Consumer Reporting Notice before using court information in a decision-making context.
Frequently Asked Questions About Manatee County Court Records
Can I search Manatee County court records by name for free?
Yes. The official Manatee County Clerk Public Records Hub provides a free Person’s Name court search. An account is not required simply to run an ordinary public search.
Do I need to register to see public court documents?
Ordinary public document images do not generally require a subscription or login. Manatee does require registration to view eligible documents in probate and domestic-relations case types, and other documents can remain confidential regardless of registration.
What does the lock icon mean?
A lock can indicate a View-on-Request document. Click the lock, enter an email address and submit the request. The Clerk currently says a requested VOR document may take up to 24 hours to arrive.
How much does a Manatee County court-record copy cost?
Current Public Access guidance lists standard 8½ × 11 copies at $1 per page, certification at $2 per certification and a $2-per-year search charge when the case number is not supplied.
Can I get an electronically certified Manatee court record?
Yes, for eligible documents. A registered user can locate the record, select Certified Print, add it to the shopping cart and complete the Clerk’s electronic ordering process.
Where do I go for in-person court-record research?
Public Access & Research is on the main floor of the Historic Courthouse at 1115 Manatee Avenue West in Bradenton. Its direct telephone number is 941-741-4040.
Why is the Judicial Center address different from the records-office address?
The Clerk’s Public Access operation is at the Historic Courthouse, 1115 Manatee Avenue West. The Manatee County Judicial Center at 1051 Manatee Avenue West is the adjacent modern courthouse used for courtrooms and judicial operations.
How far back do Manatee County historical records go?
The Historical Records Library says it holds Clerk records dating back to 1855. Current Public Access guidance says court records have been captured and maintained as electronic images since 2001.
Is the Sheriff’s arrest search the same as a criminal court search?
No. The Sheriff’s arrest inquiry provides booking/custody information. For the final disposition of a criminal prosecution, use the Manatee County Clerk’s court case record.
Where do I search a Manatee appeal or federal case?
Use Florida ACIS for state appellate cases. Manatee County is within the Second District Court of Appeal. For federal cases, use PACER and the Middle District of Florida’s Tampa Division.
