Search Mahoning County Court Records Without Missing the Case in the Wrong Court
Mahoning County court records are divided among Common Pleas, Domestic Relations, Probate, Juvenile, four numbered County Courts, municipal courts and the Seventh District Court of Appeals. There is no single search box that reliably covers every one of those records.
This guide shows which official system to use, how to search by name or case number, the exact Probate name format, where divorce records are obtained, how County Court jurisdiction works, where municipal and appellate records fit, and what to do when an online result is missing or incomplete.
Mahoning County Court Finder: Match the Record to the Court That Holds It
The most common search failure is a routing problem. A correct name entered in Common Pleas will not retrieve a Probate estate, an offline Domestic Relations record or a Youngstown Municipal case.
Start with Common Pleas and the Mahoning County Clerk of Courts.
Use Domestic Relations Court and the Clerk. The records are not available online.
Use Mahoning County Probate Court’s separate public-record portal.
Use the numbered County Court or municipal court that has geographic jurisdiction.
| Record or case | Start here | Remote route | Important distinction |
|---|---|---|---|
| Common Pleas civil / felony criminal | Mahoning County Clerk of Courts | General Case Search | Use the Clerk when you need the actual document or certified record rather than only case information. |
| Divorce / Domestic Relations | Clerk of Courts + Domestic Relations Court | Not online | The Clerk’s FAQ specifically says Domestic Relations records are not available online. |
| Probate | Mahoning County Probate Court | Separate portal | Probate has its own search syntax and its own copy/certification fee schedule. |
| Juvenile | Mahoning County Juvenile Court | Access varies | Juvenile files require separate access analysis; do not assume every file should appear publicly online. |
| Boardman, Sebring, Austintown or Canfield-area lower court | Mahoning County Court #2, #3, #4 or #5 | County search links | Choose the court by geographic jurisdiction, not simply by the defendant’s current address. |
| Youngstown municipal case | Youngstown Municipal Clerk | CourtView | Youngstown has its own Public Case Access/ePay route. |
| Struthers-area municipal case | Struthers Municipal Court | Public Records Search | Its search has specific name, case-number and ticket-number formatting rules. |
| Campbell municipal case | Campbell Municipal Court | Separate court | Use Campbell’s current official court page to reach its court resources. |
| Appeal from a Mahoning County trial court | Seventh District Court of Appeals | Appellate resources | The Mahoning County Clerk serves as the appellate Clerk for Mahoning County filings. |
How to Search Mahoning County Court Records by Name
Search broadly inside the correct court first. Adding an uncertain middle name, year or case category too early can hide a valid record.
- Identify the court family. Decide whether the matter is Common Pleas, Domestic Relations, Probate, Juvenile, a numbered County Court, municipal court or appellate case.
- Open the official search for that court. Use the General Case Search for covered county matters, the separate Probate portal for probate, or the correct municipal or appellate resource.
- Start with the core legal name. Search the first and last name you are confident about before adding optional details.
- Try useful name variations only when necessary. Remove an uncertain middle name, try a middle initial or former surname, and check spelling differences that may have existed when the case was filed.
- Follow the portal’s own formatting instructions. Probate and Struthers publish specific name or case-number syntax. Do not assume the same format works in every Mahoning County system.
- Use the complete case number when available. A case number usually identifies one file more precisely than a common name, but make sure you are using it in the court that issued it.
- Verify the result and obtain the actual record if needed. Compare court, case type, dates, party role and disposition. Move from the docket to the Clerk’s copy process when you need a filed document or certified record.
For a broader explanation of name and case-number searching, use the site’s Court Records Search by Name & Case Number guide.
Common Pleas Records: Start With Mahoning County General Case Search
Mahoning County’s Court Services page describes the Court Records route as a centralized database for case information. The Clerk of Courts also links the General Case Search from its official page.
Mahoning County General Case Search
Use the county eCourts system for covered Common Pleas and County Court information. The application is dynamic, so use the labels and search options shown by the live system rather than relying on screenshots from an older guide.

Fax: 330-740-2105

Common Pleas cases you may encounter
Common Pleas General Division is the place to check for felony prosecutions and many larger civil matters. The Clerk’s published resources also separate Civil, Criminal and Domestic Relations court rules, which is another reminder that the phrase “Common Pleas record” can refer to different case divisions.
Look beyond the initial lower-court appearance and check the Common Pleas file for the later prosecution and disposition.
Common Pleas civil records can include complaints, motions, judgments, foreclosure matters and other civil proceedings.
Divorce, dissolution and related cases are part of Common Pleas but have a separate court division and are not available online through the Clerk’s ordinary public search.
Mahoning County Divorce and Domestic Relations Records Are Not Available Online
The Mahoning County Clerk of Courts FAQ states that Domestic Relations records are not available online. If you need a divorce case record, decree or another Domestic Relations filing, the Clerk directs users to contact the office at 330-740-2104.
This is an important search limitation. A failed General Case Search does not prove that a divorce or dissolution case does not exist.

How to request a divorce record efficiently
- Give the Clerk both parties’ names as they were likely indexed when the case was filed.
- Provide the approximate filing or divorce year if you know it.
- Give the case number whenever you have it.
- Ask for the exact document you need, such as the final decree or another judgment entry.
- State whether you need a plain copy or a certified copy.
- Ask for the current total fee before sending payment or requesting delivery.
Mahoning County Probate Search: Use the Portal’s Published Name Format
Probate Court uses a separate Tyler Odyssey public-record portal. The portal warns that some records are confidential and therefore may not be available to view online.
| Search method | Published format | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Case number | Year – case abbreviation – case number | YYYY-ES-00123 |
| Exact name | Last name, comma, space, first name | Smith, John |
| Partial name | At least 3 last-name characters + *, comma and space, at least 1 first-name character + * | Smi*, J* |
The Probate portal also instructs users to select Download Document to view a multi-page document in full when that document is available remotely.
Probate record-copy fees
Mahoning County Probate Court publishes a separate records-request fee schedule. These charges are different from the Clerk of Courts’ general public-record copy policy.
| Probate record service | Published fee | Important note |
|---|---|---|
| Plain copy — one-sided page | $0.10 | Use when certification is not required. |
| Plain copy — two-sided page | $0.15 | Published Probate fee. |
| Authenticated copy | $2.50 per authentication | The court’s schedule says plain-copy page charges are additional. |
| Certified copy | $3 per page | The published schedule also references plain-copy page charges. |
| Exemplified copy | $5 per exemplification | Published schedule says applicable certified-copy charges are additional. |

Youngstown, Struthers and Campbell Municipal Court Records
Municipal courts are separate from Mahoning County’s numbered County Courts. A traffic, misdemeanor, small-claims or local civil case may therefore be missing from the county search because it belongs in a municipal system.
Youngstown Municipal Court
The City of Youngstown Municipal Clerk provides Public Case Access/ePay through CourtView. The Clerk maintains separate contact numbers for civil, small claims, criminal/traffic and parking matters.
Youngstown Municipal Courthouse, 1st Floor

Read the Court Name Before Searching
If a citation says Youngstown Municipal Court, do not keep searching Common Pleas. If it says Struthers, use Struthers. Court name and filing location are stronger clues than the broad phrase “Mahoning County.”
Youngstown CourtView: special parking-ticket search rule
Youngstown’s Clerk page publishes a specific instruction for parking tickets: search the vehicle license number on the Ticket/Citation # tab in CourtView to obtain a complete listing of violations. The city also says the outstanding balance must be calculated by totaling the listed violations.
Struthers Public Records Search: exact search instructions
| Search | Struthers instruction | Practical use |
|---|---|---|
| Name / company | When using first and last name, enter last name then first name separated by a comma and space. | Be as specific as possible without adding uncertain information. |
| Case number | Enter numbers only; no letters or dashes. | Do not paste the printed number blindly if it contains punctuation. |
| Ticket number | Enter numbers only; no letters or dashes. | Useful for traffic-related searches. |
| File or hearing date | Month, day and year fields must all be completed. | Do not use a guessed date if you are unsure; a wrong date can suppress the correct result. |
Mahoning County Juvenile Court Records Need Separate Handling
Mahoning County Juvenile Court is at 300 E Scott Street, Youngstown, OH 44505. The published main phone number is 330-740-2278, with office hours Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The court’s Clerk function receives and records motions, orders and other filings, maintains indexes and dockets, certifies judgment entries and Magistrate’s Orders, and handles case transfers when required.
Seventh District Court of Appeals Records for Mahoning County
The Seventh District Court of Appeals serves Belmont, Carroll, Columbiana, Harrison, Jefferson, Mahoning, Monroe and Noble counties. For a Mahoning County appeal, the Mahoning County Clerk of Courts serves as the Clerk of Court for the appellate case.
Seventh District Court of Appeals

Youngstown, OH 44503
Phone: 330-740-2180
Fax: 330-740-2182
Hours: Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–4 p.m.
Opinion Versus Trial-Court Record
The Seventh District directs users to the Supreme Court of Ohio for published opinions. The appellate court also instructs users to verify the official filing date of a final judgment entry through the Clerk of Courts for the appropriate county.
The appellate court’s website provides case-related resources, a court calendar, rules, forms and Clerk information. An appeal can have a different case number from the underlying trial-court case, so keep both identifiers when you are tracing the procedural history.
Ohio Court Records: Public Access and Online Access Are Not the Same Thing
Ohio restructured its Rules of Superintendence effective July 1, 2026. The current court-record access section uses Sup.R. 11.09 through 11.16, replacing older references to Sup.R. 44 through 47.
| Current rule | Topic | Why it matters to a search user |
|---|---|---|
| Sup.R. 11.09 | Public Access Definitions | Defines court records, direct access and remote access. |
| Sup.R. 11.10 | Presumption of Public Access | Establishes the starting principle for access, subject to applicable restrictions. |
| Sup.R. 11.11 | Direct Access | Covers access through the court or Clerk and duplication of court records. |
| Sup.R. 11.12 | Remote Access | Internet availability is a separate category from direct courthouse access. |
| Sup.R. 11.13 | Omission of Personal Identifiers | Do not expect protected personal identifiers to appear in ordinary public copies. |
| Sup.R. 11.14 | Restricting Public Access | A record or part of a record may be restricted under the governing procedure. |
| Sup.R. 11.28–11.34 | Records management and retention | Older court records are governed by division-specific retention rules rather than by a single countywide internet cutoff. |
How to Request Mahoning County Court Records, Copies and Certification
A case-search result is not automatically the court record you need. Before contacting a Clerk, decide whether you need a docket, one filed document, an ordinary reproduction, a certified copy or an exemplified/authenticated record.
Useful for locating a case number, parties, dates, events and status.
The complaint, motion, order, judgment or another individual filing when accessible.
Use when the receiving organization specifically requires court authentication.
For more help distinguishing these products, see Court Record Types Explained.
Mahoning County Clerk of Courts public-record request policy
The Clerk’s currently posted public-record policy gives practical details that are not obvious from the case-search page.
- A requester must describe the record clearly enough for the office to identify, retrieve and review it.
- The policy says a records request does not have to be put in writing.
- It also says a requester generally does not have to provide identity or the intended use of the records.
- The office does not have to create a new record simply to answer a request.
- Inspection is available during regular business hours subject to applicable restrictions and holidays.
- The policy’s goal is to acknowledge in writing or, when feasible, satisfy requests within three business days, while recognizing that large or complicated requests can take longer.
- If part of a record is exempt, the office can redact that information while releasing nonexempt portions where applicable.
Clerk copy costs published in the posted policy
| Format | Published amount | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Paper copies | $0.10 per page after the first 10 pages | The policy says charges are based on actual copying cost. |
| Emailed records | No charge stated in the posted policy | Availability depends on whether the requested record can appropriately be provided that way. |
| Compact disc | $2 per disc | Applies when electronic files are downloaded to that medium. |
| Certified copies | $1 per page | The policy says fees are subject to change; confirm the current total before ordering. |
| Mail or delivery | Actual applicable delivery cost | Postage, mailing supplies or other delivery costs may be charged. |
The policy also says the office may require payment in advance for actual costs. Because the posted policy itself says pricing can change, call 330-740-2104 before relying on a fee for an important request.
Example request: “I located case [case number]. I need a certified copy of the final judgment entry dated approximately [date]. Can you confirm the current total cost and available delivery method?”
Older Mahoning County Court Records: Do Not Assume the Internet Is the Archive
No reliable single Mahoning County online coverage date was published across every court system reviewed for this page. That means a guide should not invent a year such as “all records since 1990” and treat it as countywide coverage.
Ohio’s current Rules of Superintendence separately address retention for appellate courts, Common Pleas General/Domestic/Juvenile divisions, Probate, and municipal/county courts. The retention treatment therefore depends on the court and record category.
Contact the Mahoning County Clerk with the party names, approximate year, case type and any case number found on old paperwork.
Search the Probate portal first, then contact Probate Court if the case or document is not available remotely.
Contact the specific court that had geographic jurisdiction rather than assuming the Common Pleas Clerk maintains the record.
Court Case or Recorded Property Document? Use the Right Mahoning County Office
A Recorder search and a court-record search can both contain people’s names, but they answer different questions. The Mahoning County Recorder publishes a public-access service for recorded documents and says its current online search covers 1980 to present.
| You need | Correct office | Do not use |
|---|---|---|
| Civil lawsuit or judgment entry | Clerk of Courts / correct court | Recorder document search |
| Felony criminal case | Common Pleas Clerk | Recorder property records |
| Divorce decree | Clerk of Courts / Domestic Relations | Recorder |
| Deed, mortgage or recorded land document | Mahoning County Recorder | Common Pleas criminal search |
Open Mahoning County Recorder only when the record you need is actually a recorded document rather than a court case.
No Mahoning County Court Record Found? Run This Recovery Sequence
- Confirm Mahoning County is actually the filing county. A person’s residence does not prove a case was filed there.
- Confirm the court family. Move between Common Pleas, Probate, Domestic Relations, Juvenile, County Court, municipal court and Appeals when the case type requires it.
- Remove uncertain filters. Retry the legal first and last name before adding a middle name, filing year or case category.
- Try meaningful name variations. Use a former surname, middle initial or alternative spelling that may have appeared when the case was filed.
- Use the court’s exact syntax. Follow Probate’s wildcard format or Struthers’ numbers-only case/ticket instructions rather than inventing search syntax.
- Check both lower court and Common Pleas for a felony. An initial appearance can exist in a lower court while the later prosecution is in Common Pleas.
- Remember that Domestic Relations is offline. A missing online divorce search result does not mean no divorce record exists.
- Check the appellate level when the trial result was appealed. The Seventh District can contain a later decision affecting the trial-court result.
- Consider restricted or confidential records. Juvenile, sealed, expunged, protected or otherwise restricted material may not be available in ordinary internet access.
- Contact the record-holding Clerk for older or nonremote files. Give the names, approximate year, case type, court and exact document needed.
Verify the Person and the Outcome Before Using a Court Search Result
A matching name is a lead, not identity proof. Mahoning County systems can contain people with the same or similar names, and early docket entries can describe allegations or requests that did not become the final outcome.
Does the filing court make sense for where the event or dispute occurred?
Check whether the person is plaintiff, defendant, petitioner, respondent or another participant.
Do not confuse a civil lawsuit, criminal prosecution, divorce, probate matter or municipal citation.
Record the complete identifier and use it for later searches or copy requests.
Compare the year and sequence of events with what you already know.
Read the final order or disposition rather than assuming the original allegation or complaint was proved.
For unfamiliar abbreviations or docket terms, use the Court Records Glossary.

Use Mahoning County Court Records in Context
Online court records can contain accusations, complaints, dismissed claims, amended charges, same-name parties and incomplete remote document access. Read the full procedural history before drawing a conclusion about a person or case.
- Do not identify someone from a name match alone.
- Do not treat a criminal charge as a conviction.
- Do not treat a civil complaint as a judgment.
- Do not treat a divorce filing as proof that a divorce became final.
- Check later orders, dismissals, appeals and amended entries where relevant.
- Do not treat an ordinary online printout as a certified court record.
- Do not try to bypass a sealed, confidential or restricted record.
For employment, housing, credit, insurance, licensing or another potentially regulated eligibility decision, read the site’s FCRA and Consumer Reporting Notice.
Mahoning County Court Records FAQs
Where should I start a Mahoning County court records search?

Use Mahoning County General Case Search for covered Common Pleas and County Court case information, the separate Probate portal for probate matters, the Clerk for offline Domestic Relations records, or the correct municipal or appellate resource when the case was filed elsewhere.
Can I search Mahoning County divorce records online?
No. The Mahoning County Clerk of Courts states that Domestic Relations records are not available online. Contact the Clerk at 330-740-2104 for divorce-record copies and the current cost.
How do I search Mahoning County Probate Court by name?
For an exact name, enter the last name, comma and space, then the first name, such as Smith, John. For a partial search, use at least three last-name characters followed by an asterisk, then a comma and space, then at least one first-name character followed by an asterisk, such as Smi*, J*.
Which Mahoning County Court handles Boardman cases?
Mahoning County Court #2 serves Boardman Township. It handles misdemeanor criminal and traffic charges, small claims, civil complaints, initial felony appearances and probation violations within its jurisdiction.
How do I search Struthers Municipal Court by case number?
Struthers instructs users to enter the case number as numbers only, without letters or dashes. Its ticket-number search uses the same numbers-only rule.
Does Youngstown Municipal Court have an online case search?
Yes. Youngstown’s Municipal Clerk provides Public Case Access/ePay through CourtView. The Clerk also publishes a special search instruction for parking tickets using the vehicle license number on the Ticket/Citation # tab.
Where do I search a Mahoning County appeal?
Mahoning County is in Ohio’s Seventh District Court of Appeals. The appellate court provides case-related resources, rules and calendars, and the Mahoning County Clerk serves as the Court of Appeals Clerk for Mahoning County filings.

Why can I see a docket but not the underlying document?
A docket and a filed document are different layers of access. Ohio’s current court rules distinguish direct court access from remote electronic access, and particular documents or information may be omitted, restricted or unavailable remotely.
Does no online result mean there is no Mahoning County case?
No. The case may be in another court, Domestic Relations may be offline, the record may be older, the search syntax may be wrong, the case may have moved from a lower court to Common Pleas, or lawful restrictions may limit remote access.
Is the Mahoning County Recorder search the same as a court-record search?
No. The Recorder’s system concerns recorded documents such as deeds and mortgages. Civil, criminal, divorce, probate and municipal court cases belong with the appropriate court or Clerk.
