Search Las Vegas Court Records in the Right Court Before You Search the Name
A Las Vegas court record may be held by the Eighth Judicial District Court, Las Vegas Township Justice Court or the City of Las Vegas Municipal Court. These courts use different public search systems even when the case involves the same city.
Which Las Vegas Case Are You Trying to Find?
Choose the closest situation first. A failed search in one Las Vegas portal does not mean that the case does not exist in another court.
Search Clark County District Court civil, criminal, family and probate information through the District Court system.
District Court recordsUse the Las Vegas Township Justice Court Odyssey public-access system for qualifying civil, criminal and traffic matters.
Justice Court recordsUse the city court portal when the citation or case was issued within Las Vegas Municipal Court jurisdiction.
Municipal Court recordsNevada appellate cases and federal cases are searched outside the ordinary Las Vegas trial-court portals.
Appellate and PACERLas Vegas Has Three Different Trial-Court Search Routes
The phrase “Las Vegas court records” is not specific enough to identify the correct database. The court named on a citation, complaint, hearing notice, judgment or prior order is usually the most useful routing clue.
Handles felony and gross-misdemeanor proceedings plus major civil, family, probate and other general-jurisdiction matters in Clark County.
Maintains separate civil and criminal case records and its own traffic and calendar search options.
Handles city misdemeanor offenses, traffic matters, municipal-code cases and qualifying civil ordinance matters within city jurisdiction.
Nevada Supreme Court and Court of Appeals cases use the state appellate portal. Federal cases use PACER.
| What you have | Likely court | Best starting route |
|---|---|---|
| Felony or gross misdemeanor District Court case | Eighth Judicial District Court | District Court Case & Calendar Inquiry. |
| Divorce, custody, probate or major civil lawsuit | Eighth Judicial District Court | Use the appropriate District Court search or clerk division. |
| Las Vegas Township civil or criminal case | Las Vegas Justice Court | Use the Justice Court Odyssey Public Access portal. |
| City misdemeanor or city traffic case | Las Vegas Municipal Court | Use the Municipal Court case portal or docket search. |
| Nevada Supreme Court or Court of Appeals case | Nevada appellate court | Use Nevada Appellate Courts Case Lookup. |
| U.S. District, bankruptcy or federal appellate matter | Federal court | Use PACER. |
How to Search Las Vegas Court Records by Name
Begin with the court, then search the person or business. That order reduces false “no record” results and helps avoid mixing cases from different Las Vegas jurisdictions.
Look for Eighth Judicial District Court, Las Vegas Justice Court or Las Vegas Municipal Court on the citation, complaint, bail paperwork, order, hearing notice or judgment.
Separate felony, major civil, family and probate matters from Justice Court civil/criminal matters and city-level Municipal Court cases.
Use the District Court Case Inquiry, Las Vegas Justice Court Odyssey portal or Las Vegas Municipal Court search rather than a generic commercial people-search page.
Start with a correctly spelled surname and first name where the system allows it. Avoid uncertain middle names, dates or filters during the first search.
Repeat the search with a middle initial, former surname, hyphen or punctuation variation if the expected result does not appear.
Compare the court, case number, party role, case type, filing date, charges or claims, and later disposition or judgment.
Use that number when returning to the case, checking a calendar or requesting a filed document, certified copy or older file from the clerk.
Eighth Judicial District Court Records in Las Vegas
The Eighth Judicial District Court is Clark County’s general-jurisdiction trial court. Its Clerk of the Court maintains records dating from September 1909 to the present, while most records from approximately 1990 forward may be searched online.
Search District Court civil, criminal, family and probate information
The current District Court Case & Calendar Inquiry page provides public case-search routes for civil, criminal, family and probate matters. CourtFinder also explains that civil, criminal and probate searches can be changed from the default case-number search to a party-name search.

Las Vegas Township Justice Court Records
Las Vegas Justice Court uses a separate Odyssey Public Access system. Its public portal provides routes for civil records, criminal records, traffic or civil-infraction matters and court calendars.
Use the Justice Court public-access system for qualifying Las Vegas Township civil cases. If a document itself is needed, use the court’s record-request process.
The public portal includes a separate criminal-record route. Verify later events and the disposition rather than relying only on an initial charge.
The Justice Court portal warns that traffic citations can take time to update and should not be expected to appear immediately after issuance or a hearing.
Requesting a Las Vegas Justice Court record
The Justice Court’s public-access policy requires enough information to identify the requested record. Useful details include the party name, case caption, case number or the specific document requested.
The court’s records policy directs criminal record requests to Records.Criminal@clarkcountynv.gov and civil record requests to Records.Civil@clarkcountynv.gov. Written requests may also be directed to the Las Vegas Justice Court Clerk’s Office at the Regional Justice Center.
Las Vegas Municipal Court Records
Las Vegas Municipal Court is the City of Las Vegas court of record for city misdemeanor offenses, traffic matters and municipal-code cases within its jurisdiction. It has its own search portal and should not be confused with Las Vegas Township Justice Court.
Municipal Court location
Name-search fields
The current public search interface identifies Last Name and Date of Birth as required fields for its name search, with First Name available as an additional filter.
If you already know the Municipal Court case number, use the separate Case Docket Search rather than a broad person search.
Search by Case Number When You Have It
A complete court case number is normally more precise than a name search. Enter the number in the court system that issued it rather than assuming the same identifier works across District, Justice and Municipal Court portals.
| Case number belongs to | Where to use it | Watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Eighth Judicial District Court | District Court Case Inquiry | A prior Justice Court proceeding may have a different number. |
| Las Vegas Justice Court | Justice Court Odyssey Public Access | A later felony District Court case can have a separate District Court number. |
| Las Vegas Municipal Court | Municipal Court Case Docket Search | The Municipal portal does not represent every Clark County jurisdiction. |
| Nevada appellate court | Nevada Appellate Courts Case Lookup | The appeal has a separate appellate docket from the trial case. |
Verify a Las Vegas Court Search Result Before Relying on It
A public search result is a locator. It should not be treated as proof that a person with a matching name is the person you intended to research.
Confirm District, Justice or Municipal Court before comparing the rest of the record.
Save the complete number because it is the best identifier for later court or clerk contact.
Check whether the person is plaintiff, defendant, petitioner, respondent or another participant.
Distinguish civil, criminal, family, probate, traffic and municipal-code matters.
Compare the filing date with the event or time period you expected.
Read the later outcome, dismissal, judgment or sentence rather than stopping at an allegation.
Use the site’s Court Records Glossary when a term such as docket, disposition, judgment, sealed, dismissed or certified copy is unclear.
No Las Vegas Court Record Appears? Check the Court Before Changing the Name
A zero-result screen is often a routing problem. The same city can involve multiple court systems, different case numbers and different public-access rules.
Confirm whether the document says Eighth Judicial District Court, Las Vegas Justice Court or Las Vegas Municipal Court.
A felony, divorce, small claim and city traffic matter will not necessarily be held in the same court.
Use the exact identifier from existing paperwork when available.
Remove an uncertain middle name, test a former surname or correct punctuation without changing reliable identifiers.
A criminal matter can begin in Justice Court and later receive a separate District Court case number if it proceeds to District Court.
District Court records before approximately 1990 may require a records search rather than ordinary online lookup.
A sealed, confidential or exempt record may not appear on the public Internet.
Use the Nevada appellate portal for a state appeal and PACER for federal litigation.
District Court Copies, Certification and Record-Search Costs
The Eighth Judicial District Court publishes specific Clerk of the Court charges for researching older files and obtaining copies. These fees apply to District Court records, not automatically to Justice or Municipal Court requests.
| District Court service | Published charge | Practical use |
|---|---|---|
| Pre-1990 records search | $0.50 per year, per name | Used when staff must search older records or a microfilm index. |
| Photocopy | $0.50 per page | Plain Clerk copy of a court document. |
| Certification added to Clerk copy | $3 per document | When the receiving organization requires a certified court copy. |
| Exemplification added to Clerk copy | $6 per document | For situations requiring the higher form of court authentication. |
The District Court states that larger requests or records that must be retrieved from microfilm or another source may take up to two weeks. A certified, exemplified or plain-copy request can be submitted using the court’s current records request procedure.
Older Las Vegas District Court Records
The District Court Clerk maintains records from September 1909 forward, but ordinary online searching generally covers records from approximately 1990 to the present. A much older civil, criminal or probate file may require a clerk search or microfilm index.
If you do not know the case number, the Clerk asks for the complete names of the parties and the year the action was filed. This is especially useful when an older case cannot be located in the current Odyssey case-management system.
Sealed and Restricted Las Vegas Court Records
The Eighth Judicial District Court states that sealed cases are not available through ordinary Internet access. Certain case types can be sealed automatically by law, while a court may seal an entire case or individual documents in other circumstances.
Las Vegas Justice Court likewise states that sealed cases, protective orders and certain information exempt from disclosure do not appear in its public portal.
Las Vegas Appeals and Federal Court Records Use Different Systems
A Nevada Supreme Court or Court of Appeals case is not searched through the ordinary District, Justice or Municipal portals. The Nevada Appellate Courts Case Lookup allows searches by appellate case number, caption, participant surname or company/organization name.
Federal district, bankruptcy and federal appellate cases use PACER. If you know the federal court, PACER recommends searching that court directly. If you do not know which federal court has the case, use the PACER Case Locator.
Read Las Vegas Court Records as Court Records, Not Background Reports
Public dockets can contain allegations, amended charges, dismissed matters, motions, old addresses and same-name parties. A court search is designed to locate cases and filings, not to provide identity-certified consumer screening.
- Confirm the court and case number.
- Check the party’s role in the case.
- Read the latest relevant docket entries.
- Locate the actual order, judgment or disposition when the outcome matters.
- Do not treat a charge as a conviction.
- Do not treat a complaint as proof of liability.
- Do not assume a downloaded copy is certified.
