Find a Boone County Court Case, Then Get the Record You Actually Need

Boone County directs current public case searches to Judici. The Circuit Clerk says cases from August 1993 forward can be searched there, while older files may require courthouse indexes, files or microfilm. This guide shows how to search by name or case number, verify a result, request copies, recover an older case and route appellate or federal records correctly.

Quick answer Start with the Boone County Judici case search. Select Boone County, complete the human-verification step, then search by case number or use the name format Last Name, First Name. Save the complete case number when you find a plausible match. If the case predates August 1993, contact or visit the Boone County Circuit Clerk instead of treating a blank Judici result as proof that no record exists.

Boone County court records are maintained through the Circuit Clerk, not the Boone County Clerk & Recorder. The Circuit Clerk states that its office maintains records of traffic, civil and criminal cases filed and heard in Boone County. Probate, family, small claims, eviction, foreclosure and other Circuit Court matters also route through the court system.

The searchable website is Judici, a private platform used by participating Illinois Circuit Clerks. The 17th Judicial Circuit and Boone County Circuit Clerk both direct the public to that service for current Boone County case information. Judici itself states that it is operated by Judici.com, not by a court.

Start With the Current Boone County Case Database

The Boone County Circuit Clerk currently gives three routes for finding a court record: search the current electronic database, inspect older records at the courthouse, or submit a written request for clerk staff to search.

1 Case filed August 1993 or later Search Boone County on Judici first. The Clerk says all cases since August 1993 may be searched through that system.
2 Case filed before August 1993 Use the Boone County Courthouse indexes, files and microfilm resources rather than relying only on the current online database.
3 You cannot perform the search yourself Submit a written search request to the Circuit Clerk with the years, names, required search fee and a self-addressed stamped envelope.
4 You need the actual document Use the case number to request the complaint, order, judgment or other filing. A Judici case screen is not automatically the complete court file.
Best practical sequence Search → save the complete case number → verify party and case type → read the docket → identify the exact document you need → contact the Circuit Clerk if a copy or certification is required.

What Boone County Circuit Court Records Can Include

Illinois trial courts are Circuit Courts. Boone and Winnebago Counties form the 17th Judicial Circuit, and the Boone County Circuit Clerk maintains the local court record. The office publishes separate civil, criminal and traffic departments and department extensions for specific case types.

Criminal

Felony & misdemeanor

Use the Boone case search for public criminal case information. The Clerk separately lists felony and criminal-misdemeanor staff contacts when additional help is needed.

Civil

Lawsuits & money claims

Civil records can include law, arbitration, small claims, foreclosure, eviction, chancery and other civil case categories filed in Boone County.

Family

Divorce & family

Dissolution and family matters are Circuit Court cases, but remote access may be narrower when a filing contains confidential or protected information.

Probate

Estates & guardianships

The Circuit Clerk’s civil department handles probate-related court files. Historical probate material can also exist in the Illinois Regional Archives Depository system.

Traffic

Traffic & ordinance cases

Judici is also used for Boone County traffic matters and eligible online payment functions. A court-required appearance should not be replaced by an online payment unless the citation and court instructions permit it.

Court dates

Upcoming appearances

The Clerk says you can check your date through Judici or call 815-544-0371 with the case number available. Court scheduling can change, so rely on the newest official notice.

For unfamiliar terminology such as docket, disposition, judgment, sealed, dismissed or certified copy, use the site’s Court Records Glossary. To distinguish a docket, filing, judgment and transcript, see Court Record Types Explained.

Judici Coverage Starts in August 1993 for Boone County

The Boone County Circuit Clerk says all cases since August 1993 may be searched on Judici. Judici’s own current data-coverage information is more specific, listing Boone County criminal and civil files as current from August 23, 1993.

How to Find a Boone County Case From Before August 1993

The Circuit Clerk expressly directs users with pre-August-1993 cases to visit the Boone County Courthouse and review the office’s indexes, files and microfilm resources.

1 Estimate the filing year. Narrowing the year reduces manual research time and is especially important if you will ask Clerk staff to search.
2 Collect every reliable name variant. Bring former surnames, business names and spelling variants that actually relate to the person or case.
3 Contact the Circuit Clerk before traveling. Construction is currently affecting courthouse public access, so confirm the latest entry and records-access instructions first.
4 Check IRAD for historical holdings. Selected Boone County court records have been transferred to the Illinois Regional Archives Depository at Northern Illinois University.

Historical Boone County holdings at IRAD

The Illinois State Archives currently lists Boone County Circuit Court dockets from 1850–1909, execution dockets and indexes from portions of the 1840s–1900, a Circuit Court record from 1838–1843, and several historical probate series. Probate case files are listed for 1840–1957.

Boone County Court Record Copy and Certification Fees

The current Court Records page links to the Circuit Clerk’s miscellaneous fee schedule, which is labeled effective August 1, 2019. The page remains the Clerk’s current linked fee source, but verify the amount before mailing payment because fee schedules can be amended.

Record service Published amount
First copy page $2.00
Pages 2–20 $0.50 each
Pages over 20 $0.25 each
Certification $6.00 each
Exemplified copy $6.00
Record search $6.00 for each year searched
Certified judgment after initial entry $10.00, subject to the Clerk’s listed exceptions
Do not confuse a case screen with a certified record. Judici helps locate and review case information. When an employer, government agency, another court or legal process specifically requires certification, request the document from the Circuit Clerk and state that a certified copy is needed.

Need a Transcript Instead of a Docket or Copy?

A transcript records what was said during a court proceeding. It is different from the docket, the Clerk’s copy of a pleading or an order.

The 17th Judicial Circuit provides a separate Boone County transcript-request process through Court Reporting Services. The published standard-delivery rate for an original transcript is currently $4 per page when standard delivery is available, with a typical stated timeframe of 3–4 weeks. A private copy is listed at $2.50 per page.

Use the transcript route only when you need the proceeding itself. If you need a filed judgment, order, complaint or motion, request that document from the Circuit Clerk instead.

Check courthouse location information

Construction alert — verify before visiting The Circuit Clerk currently states that courthouse construction continues, the main lobby/front entrance remains closed and public areas may have limited or no access. If you have been instructed to appear in person or need access to the Clerk’s office, the Clerk currently identifies a temporary entrance on Webster Street behind the courthouse. Call 815-544-0371 before traveling because construction access can change.

The Clerk also currently states that parties are required to appear by Zoom unless the Court instructs otherwise during the construction period. Do not use a general website instruction to override a case-specific order or notice from your judge.

Check a Boone County Court Date

If you already have the case number, the Boone County Circuit Clerk says you can call 815-544-0371 or check Judici. The office also offers text and email reminders for upcoming court dates.

Best practice Keep the newest court notice or order. An online calendar or case screen can help confirm a date, but a later signed order or official notice may change it.

Court Record Search and Court Payment Are Separate Tasks

Finding a case on Judici does not necessarily mean the case is eligible for online payment. The Circuit Clerk uses Judici for certain online payments and says a citation number or case number is required.

The Clerk currently asks users making online or phone payments to do so at least two business days before the court date. Vendor service fees can apply. For a required appearance, pending case or plea decision, follow the exact citation and court instructions rather than assuming payment will resolve the matter.

Review Boone County payment instructions

Searching a Case Is Not the Same as Filing a Document

Judici is used here to locate public case information. If you need to file a document, Boone County uses Illinois e-filing procedures instead.

The Circuit Clerk states that electronic filing has been mandatory for civil cases since January 1, 2018. Subsequent electronic filings in criminal and traffic cases have been available since January 6, 2020. Filing requirements, exemptions and fees depend on the case and filing type.

No Boone County Court Record Found? Check These Problems in Order

A blank Judici search does not establish that no Boone County case exists. Use this recovery ladder before giving up.

Check the name format. Search Last Name, First Name and remove uncertain middle names or punctuation.
Confirm Boone County, Illinois. Do not accidentally search another Boone County or a neighboring Illinois county.
Search the complete case number when available. Recheck every digit and case-type code against the citation, order or other court document.
Check the filing date. A case from before August 1993 belongs in the Clerk’s older-record workflow rather than the ordinary online database.
Consider restricted access. Juvenile, adoption, impounded, sealed and other nonpublic material may be absent from ordinary online results.
Check whether the matter was appealed. An appellate case has its own reviewing-court docket and may not be found by searching only the Boone County trial record.
Contact the Circuit Clerk. Call 815-544-0371 when the search result conflicts with a court notice, the file is missing, or you need official confirmation.

Read the Boone County Result Before Drawing a Conclusion

What you see What it tells you What it does not prove
Party name A person or entity is listed in the case. That a common-name result is the person you intended.
Criminal charge A charge was filed or recorded in the case. A conviction.
Civil complaint A claim was filed. That the plaintiff prevailed.
Docket entry A filing, hearing or court event occurred. The complete wording of the underlying document.
Judgment / disposition A recorded outcome or status. That no later appeal, modification or post-judgment event exists.

Federal Cases From Boone County Use PACER, Not Judici

Boone County is within the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. Federal judiciary information places Boone County in the Northern District, and Northern District courthouse guidance places Boone within the Western Division served from Rockford.

Use PACER when the document identifies a United States District Court, federal bankruptcy court or federal appellate court. The PACER Case Locator can also search nationwide when you do not know which federal court has the case.

Use Boone County Court Information Carefully

Public court indexes are useful for locating a file, but they can be misunderstood when a name, charge or docket entry is taken out of context.

  • Confirm the correct person before relying on a same-name result.
  • Read the final disposition rather than stopping at an accusation or filing.
  • Do not treat a charge as a conviction.
  • Do not treat a lawsuit as proof that a claim was true.
  • Do not assume every public courthouse document is available remotely.
  • Do not attempt to bypass sealed, impounded, juvenile, adoption or other access restrictions.
  • Use the Circuit Clerk when an official or certified record is required.
Consumer-reporting limitation PublicCourtRecords.org is an independent information guide, not a consumer reporting agency. Do not use this website as a substitute for legally compliant employment, tenant, credit, insurance or other eligibility screening.
