Worcester County, Massachusetts court search

Search Worcester County Court Records Through the Correct Massachusetts Court Department

Worcester County court records are maintained by Massachusetts Trial Court departments rather than one county clerk. Start with MassCourts public case access, choose the correct department and division, then use the Clerk, Clerk-Magistrate or Register for documents and certified copies.

Quick answer Use MassCourts for public Trial Court docket information. Select Superior Court, District Court, Probate and Family Court, Housing Court or another appropriate department before searching. A Worcester County divorce file, felony case, small claim and eviction can all follow different record routes.

What Kind of Worcester County Record Do You Need?

The case type determines the Trial Court department, and the department determines which division or clerk owns the official file.

Choose the Court Department Before Searching Worcester County

Massachusetts organizes Trial Court records by department and division. There is no single Worcester County clerk who maintains every criminal, civil, divorce, probate, housing and juvenile case.

Superior Court Countywide general jurisdiction

Search here for felony indictments, larger civil matters and other cases within Superior Court jurisdiction.

District Court Local divisions

Many criminal complaints, misdemeanors, civil actions, small claims and other matters begin in a District Court serving specific cities and towns.

Probate & Family Countywide family and estate cases

Divorce, custody, support, estates, wills, guardianships and conservatorships use Worcester Probate and Family Court.

Specialized departments Housing and Juvenile

Eviction and housing-condition matters use Housing Court, while juvenile proceedings follow Juvenile Court access rules.

Record or case Likely department First action
Felony indictment Superior Court Select Superior Court in MassCourts and choose Worcester.
Misdemeanor or local criminal complaint District Court Identify the District Court serving the filing location.
Small claim or qualifying civil case District Court Select the correct local District Court division.
Divorce, custody or child support Probate & Family Court Use Worcester Probate and Family Court.
Estate, will or guardianship Probate & Family Court Search Worcester Probate and Family Court case information.
Eviction or housing conditions Housing Court Identify the Central Housing Court session serving the municipality.
Juvenile proceeding Juvenile Court Use the correct Juvenile Court and expect additional access limits.
Federal civil, criminal or bankruptcy case Federal court Use PACER, not MassCourts.
Department first, name second. MassCourts asks users to select a Court Department and Court Division before running the detailed search. Choosing the wrong department can produce a blank result even when the case exists elsewhere.

Use MassCourts for Public Worcester County Trial Court Dockets

MassCourts is the Massachusetts Trial Court public case-access portal. It provides public electronic docket information and, depending on department and case type, may also show accessible case documents.

What you select before searching

Court Department

Choose Superior, District, Probate and Family, Housing or another available Trial Court department.

Court Division

Select the Worcester County division or specific local court that owns the case.

Court Location

Some departments display an additional location field; in other searches it can populate automatically.

Name tab

Use party-name searching when supported and you do not know the docket number.

Case Number tab

Use the exact docket number when available. This is normally the most precise route.

Case Type or citation

Other portal tabs can search by case type or ticket/citation number when applicable.

MassCourts is a lookup system, not a substitute for the official court file. Massachusetts states that the official public Trial Court record, including public case documents, is obtained from the Clerk, Register or Recorder’s office where the case was filed.

Case Number Search Is Usually the Fastest Route

Massachusetts refers to the case number as the docket number. The official MassCourts instructions state that the Case Number tab is the easiest route when the docket number is already known.

Enter the number as an exact match using the formatting required by the system, including correct capitalization, spacing and leading zeros. Case-number formats differ by Trial Court department.

Do not reuse a docket number in the wrong department. A Superior Court number, District Court number, Probate and Family docket and federal PACER number belong to different systems. An appeal can also receive a separate appellate docket.

Worcester County Superior Court Records

Worcester County Superior Court serves all cities and towns in Worcester County. Public case information begins with the Superior Court selection in MassCourts, while official records and copies are handled through the Superior Court Clerk’s Office.

Use Superior Court when appropriate

Superior Court handles serious criminal prosecutions by indictment, larger civil matters and other cases assigned to its general jurisdiction.

Check the court department on the docket before assuming that every Worcester County criminal case belongs in Superior Court.

Need a filed document?

Save the Superior Court docket number and exact filing description. Contact the Clerk’s Office when the document itself is not available remotely or when an attested or certified copy is required.

Worcester County District Court Records Depend on the Local Division

District Court is not one countywide office. Worcester County includes multiple District Court locations, so the city or town connected with the case can determine the correct division.

District Court Use this information Search approach
Worcester District Court Serves Worcester, Auburn and Millbury. Select District Court and Worcester Division in MassCourts.
Clinton District Court Separate local District Court division. Choose Clinton when the filing belongs to its service area.
Dudley District Court Separate southern Worcester County division. Use Dudley for cases filed in its jurisdiction.
East Brookfield District Court Maintains its own District Court records. Select East Brookfield when it is the filing court.
Fitchburg District Court Serves Fitchburg and Lunenburg. Search the Fitchburg division for cases filed there.
Gardner District Court Gardner and Winchendon District Courts were consolidated into Gardner District Court in 2025. Use current Gardner routing for affected cases.
Leominster District Court Separate northern Worcester County division. Choose Leominster when the case belongs there.
Milford District Court Separate southeastern Worcester County division. Use Milford when it is identified as the filing court.
Uxbridge District Court Separate local District Court division. Search Uxbridge for cases filed within its jurisdiction.
Westborough District Court Separate eastern Worcester County division. Use Westborough when the case was filed there.

Worcester District Court

Address 225 Main St., Worcester, MA 01608
Clerk’s Office 508-831-2010
Hours Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.

Do not search only Worcester city

A Worcester County case may be filed in Clinton, Dudley, East Brookfield, Fitchburg, Gardner, Leominster, Milford, Uxbridge or Westborough rather than Worcester District Court.

Wrong division?

Check the complaint, citation, hearing notice or docket number. The court name printed on an existing document is normally the strongest routing clue.

Worcester Probate and Family Court Records

Worcester Probate and Family Court serves all cities and towns in Worcester County. Its records include divorce, probate, guardianship, conservatorship, support, custody and other family or estate matters, subject to public-access restrictions.

Worcester Probate and Family Court

Hours Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.

Common record requests

Massachusetts specifically provides copy procedures for divorce records, name-change certificates, guardianship and conservatorship orders, docket pages and other Probate and Family records.

Docket number matters

The state instructs requesters seeking a certified Probate and Family Court record to obtain the docket number first through court-docket search or the specific Probate and Family Court.

Housing and Juvenile Court Records Need Their Own Routes

Housing Court

Central Housing Court

Housing matters such as summary process, housing conditions and related landlord-tenant proceedings use the Housing Court department rather than an ordinary District Court search.

The Central Housing Court has Worcester, Dudley and Leominster sessions serving different municipalities. Some Worcester County communities can also fall under another Central Housing Court session depending on location.

Worcester Session: 225 Main St., Worcester, MA 01608
Phone: 508-831-2050

Juvenile Court

Worcester County Juvenile Court

Worcester County juvenile matters are divided among Worcester, Fitchburg and Milford Juvenile Court locations according to the municipality involved.

Juvenile records do not follow the same public-access model as ordinary adult civil or criminal cases. Do not assume a missing public MassCourts result means no juvenile proceeding exists.

Worcester Juvenile Court: 225 Main Street, Worcester, MA 01608
Clerk’s Office: 508-831-2000

Juvenile and protected family information can be restricted. Public access depends on Massachusetts law, Trial Court rules and any applicable impoundment or confidentiality order. Do not attempt to bypass a protected-record restriction.

Official Copies, Attested Copies and Probate Record Fees

A MassCourts result or ordinary browser printout is not automatically an official certified record. When an agency, court, employer or other recipient requires authentication, request the appropriate copy from the department that owns the file.

Record service Current statewide listed fee Important note
Certificate of an order, decree, ruling, judgment or other proceeding $20 Confirm the exact certificate needed with the owning court.
Attested copy of court document or docket sheet $2.50 per page Applies under the Trial Court uniform fee schedule.
Unattested copy or printout $0.05 per page An unattested copy may not satisfy an official-document requirement.

Probate and Family Court examples

Probate / family record Current listed fee Request note
Certificate of Divorce Absolute $20 each Order from the Probate and Family Court handling the divorce.
Certified judgment of divorce nisi $20 each The listed charge does not include supporting documents.
Certified divorce separation agreement $20 first page + additional-page charge Contact the court for the number of pages and current total.
Ask what type of copy is actually required. A plain copy, attested copy, certificate and other authenticated records are not interchangeable. Confirm the recipient’s requirement before paying.

Verify the Worcester County Case Before Relying on It

A matching name should be treated as a possible case, not as proof that you found the correct person. Review the case context first.

Department

Confirm Superior, District, Probate and Family, Housing or another Trial Court department.

Division

Check the actual Worcester County court location or local District Court division.

Party role

Determine whether the person is plaintiff, defendant, petitioner, respondent or another participant.

Case type

Do not confuse criminal, civil, probate, divorce, housing or juvenile proceedings.

Filing date

Compare the filing year with the matter you expected to locate.

Disposition

Read the later case result, judgment or order rather than relying on the opening allegation.

A criminal complaint is not a conviction, and a civil complaint is not a finding of liability. Cases can be dismissed, amended, continued, resolved by agreement or followed by later orders. Review the disposition and later docket entries.

If MassCourts terminology is unfamiliar, use the site’s Court Records Glossary before interpreting terms such as docket, disposition, impounded, sealed, judgment or certified copy.

No Worcester County Case Appears? Use This Recovery Sequence

A blank search does not establish that no case exists. Department selection, division, name formatting, access rules and record age can all affect the result.

1
Check the Trial Court department.

A divorce will not be found by searching only the District Court department, and a Housing Court matter has its own department.

2
Check the District Court division.

Worcester County contains several local District Courts. Do not automatically choose Worcester District Court for every county case.

3
Try the docket number.

If you have paperwork, use the complete docket number and exact MassCourts Case Number search.

4
Review the party name.

For supported civil name searches, check spelling and remove uncertain name elements before assuming the record is missing.

5
Check courthouse access.

Massachusetts provides designated public-access computers in Trial Court locations and County Registry of Deeds sites for case information that can be accessed in person.

6
Consider restricted access.

Some juvenile, impounded, sealed and otherwise protected records are not available through ordinary remote public access.

7
Ask about an older or archived file.

Contact the owning Clerk, Clerk-Magistrate or Register when the record predates normal electronic access or has moved to archival storage.

8
Check appellate or federal jurisdiction.

A Massachusetts appeal uses appellate docket resources, while a federal case uses PACER.

Older Worcester County Court Records and Archives

Not every historical Worcester County file is available through the current MassCourts interface. Massachusetts provides a separate Court Archives route for older material.

Before requesting an older record, collect the court department, division, party names, approximate filing year and docket number if known. Contact the current court first when you are unsure whether the file remains on site or has been transferred.

Historic divorce or probate file? Start with Worcester Probate and Family Court and ask whether the record is still held locally or requires the historic-record process.

Public Access Does Not Mean Every Worcester County Record Is Online

Massachusetts Trial Court Rule XIV governs public access to Trial Court records. Its purpose is to provide access while protecting the security and privacy of litigants and non-litigants.

Publicly available records in a Clerk’s custody can generally be inspected or copied during regular courthouse business hours, but remote electronic access is more limited. Records can also be excluded or restricted by law, court rule or court order.

  • Juvenile matters can have significant public-access restrictions.
  • Impounded or sealed records are not ordinarily available to the general public.
  • Protected personal information may be withheld even when part of the case is public.
  • A visible docket entry does not guarantee that the underlying filing is remotely viewable.
Do not attempt to bypass a sealed, impounded or confidential-record restriction. Use the lawful procedure supplied by the court if you believe you are entitled to access.

Federal Worcester Court Records Use PACER

Federal civil, criminal and bankruptcy cases are separate from Massachusetts Trial Court records. Do not search MassCourts for a U.S. District Court or federal bankruptcy case.

PACER provides federal district, bankruptcy and appellate case access. If you know the federal court, search that court directly; otherwise, the PACER Case Locator can help identify the federal file.

Use Worcester County Court Records Carefully

A public docket is a court-case history, not an identity-certified background report. Similar names, dismissed matters, old filings and incomplete remote document access can produce misleading conclusions if a result is read without context.

  • Verify the Trial Court department and division.
  • Save the full docket number.
  • Check the person’s party role.
  • Read the disposition or final judgment when outcome matters.
  • Do not describe a filed charge as a conviction.
  • Do not describe a complaint as proof of liability.
  • Do not call an ordinary portal printout a certified court record.
Not a consumer reporting service. PublicCourtRecords.org is an informational court-navigation resource, not a consumer reporting agency or background-check provider. Do not use this page as an employment, tenant, credit, insurance or other regulated eligibility report.
