Corrections and Updates Policy
Court websites change often. This policy explains how we review user reports, agency updates, source changes, screenshot issues and privacy concerns so the site stays useful and trustworthy.
Why corrections matter
A small public-record error can create real inconvenience. A wrong courthouse address can send a user to the wrong place. A broken link can make a user miss a filing route. A changed portal screenshot can confuse someone trying to find a case. A weak disclaimer can cause someone to misunderstand the limits of a record.
That is why publiccourtrecords.org/ treats corrections as part of the editorial process, not as an afterthought.
High-priority correction types
Broken, redirected, outdated or non-official links that should be replaced with a verified court/clerk/government source.
Changed courthouse addresses, clerk office moves, incorrect phone numbers, wrong office names or map mismatch.
Portal redesign, changed menu names, updated search fields, relocated payment buttons or new access instructions.
Wording that needs stronger no-legal-advice, sealed-record, privacy, FCRA or responsible-use cautions.
Pages that blur docket access, certified copies, criminal case data, probate records, family records or federal/state systems.
Tables, screenshots, contrast, mobile layout or navigation issues that make a page hard to use.
Correction workflow
A reader, agency representative, content writer or editor identifies a possible issue.
We locate the guide, screenshot, table, link, phone number, address or instruction being questioned.
We check current official sources and, when needed, supporting public references.
We update, remove, rewrite, replace, annotate or add a caution depending on the evidence.
If the same issue appears on other pages, we check whether related guides need revision.
Even after correction, the page should direct users back to official sources for final action.
Correction evidence table
| Correction type | Best evidence to send | Likely action |
|---|---|---|
| Broken court link | Official replacement link or current court page. | Replace or annotate the link. |
| Wrong phone number | Official court/clerk contact page showing the current number. | Update contact section. |
| Changed address | Official courthouse/clerk office page or public notice. | Update address, map note and travel warning. |
| Screenshot outdated | Current official portal screenshot or page URL. | Update visual guide or add layout-change note. |
| Privacy concern | Exact URL and why the page creates unnecessary exposure or misunderstanding. | Review under sensitive-record policy. |
Site-wide trust note
publiccourtrecords.org/ is built for educational and informational use. Our guides are written to help users understand court-record systems, official portals, clerk routes, case-number searches, courthouse contact paths, screenshots and public-record limits. We are not a court, clerk, attorney, government agency, consumer reporting agency, background-check company or official record issuer.
When a guide contains links, phone numbers, addresses, maps, screenshots or resource notes, our content process is to manually review those details before publication or update. Court systems still control final access, fees, restrictions, filings, sealed records, certified copies and official case status.
